So I just brought my amp to a tech and oddly enough the resistor isn't sparking anymore. He powered it up and everything seems to be fine. He's going to replace a couple cap filters to eliminate some of the idle hum so I'm hoping it was a freak accident and everything will work out. thank you everyone for all your posts!

That's great. Hope it works out for you.

Yeah, glad the amp passed the tech's tests and all is well. If possible, can you find out which filter caps are being replaced ? To be honest, I was suspecting the power tubes to be little dodgey. But as long as the amp has been throughly tested, you should be in good shape ! Good Pickin' ! Art

My amps still getting fixed but Billy (the amp tech) said that the power tubes were pretty weak for new tubes but still tested in the positive zone.

so I just got my amp back yesterday and everything looks and sounds good. He changed the two 350v capacitors with two 450v capacitors, biased the tubes, and cleaned the board. After turning the amp on I noticed my reverb stopped working though. I took out the tank and saw a loose wire, re soldered it and everything is working perfect. Thanks again to every for helping out!

New to all of this but I have been reading alot on this subject. I have a Blues Deville reissue 4x10s. I want to replace the poweramp tubes. Does this need to be rebiased? If I rebias the amp is there a web page helping where I should start, as far as finding the test point on the amp and other things I should do?
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Jimmypelican,

Typically, you should check the bias when installing new output tubes. The only time that you don't need to adjust the bias, is if the bias is set properly to begin with, and you replace the existing GT tubes with the exact same type and color label GT tubes, then no need to rebias. But, if you don't know if the tubes are biased properly, you should check, and adjust if necessary. Your amp might just need the bias adjusted instead of new tubes. Maybe try the adjustment before changing tubes. Your BDvl is likely set cold from the factory and would benefit from an adjustment, as those series and similar amps are. This site shows where the test point and bias adjustment pot are located, and how to adjust. It is for the HRDvl, but should apply to your amp also.

From what I understand too. I should know the plate voltage of the amp before I bias the amp?
Where or how do I find this?
I appreciate the help!

You measure it. Pin 3 on each of the power tubes.

Do yourself a big favor and buy a tube bias probe. This is the one I use:

It can literally save your and your amp's life by making measurement safe.
