Hey everyone,

It's my first time posting here and I'm in need of some serious help. I've got a '09 Fender blues deluxe reissue that pretty much sounds like garbage. I've been doing TONS of research to try and remedy the problem myself and I found this article about removing two diodes from the amplifier to clean up the sound from the "clean" channel. I can't turn the amp up past 3 without the clean tone turning to complete mush. It has no body or tone to it and kinda sounds ... for lack of a better word "farty" haha.

I can't stress the gratitude to anyone that helps me with this. You can reference the article (very short article) I researched here

Why did you buy this amp if you don't like the sound ?

Did you buy the amp new ? If yes it should be under waranty, return for repair.

If it is not under waranty, are you sure tubes are good ? If yes, are the power tubes 6L6 are well biased ?

I LOVED the sound of the amp. I wouldn't have dropped the cash on it if I didn't. I've only owned it for a year ... gigged maybe 5 times with it and never turned it up louder then 4 or 5. The way the amp sounds now, I would've been insane to pay almost 800 bucks for it.

If I understand you ( I'm french speaking) you buy the amp new in 2009, and the sound was ok before. Now 5 gigs later, it sound bad.

It could be the output tubes, or the first tube close to these 6L6's , the 12AT7 or 12AX7.
It could be also a resistor in the circuit of this 12AT7 / 12AX7

This help you ?

This is a help. However, the link that I posted and other research that I've done showed that this is somewhat of a common problem with the amplifier itself. The link references removing TWO DIODES (CR24 and CR25) which, apparently stops any rushing of extra energy that may harm the amplifier. So I'm basically stuck in either removing this diodes or having a bad sound.

Indeed it was. I'm looking to see if removing those diodes will harm the amp or if I should just go for it to get the clean sound I want.

I just have a look on the schematic and those diodes are for protection and it don't change anything in the sound, in your problem.

Your problem is cause by what I write before, sure

Do you know anything about amp repair? Do you have a schematic for your amp? I am looking at a schematic for the Blues Deluxe Reissue as I type this. There are no such components in the amp labled CR24 or CR25. I have no idea what "diodes" people in the forum you linked to are talking about.

Your amp has a 5-year warranty. Have it repaired by a professional instead of removing parts that someone in some random forum said they removed and supposedly fixed their problem.

BTW, I have a Blues Deluxe Reissue and it sounds beautiful.

You are looking at a Blues Deluxe (original version) schematic. The Blues Deluxe Reissue (which the OP has) schematic labels those diodes as D4 and D5. I agree that they are not in the signal path and have no affect on the sound. I do not trust anything in that linked forum.

I also agree that the problem is probably a bad tube. If swapping tubes does not work, than the amp should be taken to a professional repair shop since it is still under warranty.

Thanks for this. I just got off the phone with a rep from customer support and they said the same thing. I'm thinking about getting new tubes on my way to practice with my band tonight. Any suggestions on the tubes ? I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THIS HELP !

Look at the offerings from Eurotubes:

https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... ory_id=122

I have this set in my BDRI:

Fender Blues Deluxe-Deville Blues Option
Price: $66.25
Description: A hotter matched pair of the JJ 6L6GC's for the reissue or the original fixed bias 90's Blues Deluxe or Deville for a big warm tone along with a standard ECC83S for V1, an ECC81 for V2 to drop the gain with one balanced ECC83S for the phase inverter in V3. These will reduce the preamp gain for players wanting less gain.

Perfect Blues tone (to me anyway). You also need to bias the amp properly. You can learn about that here:

http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-Fender-HRDV.htm

The video is for the Hot Rod Deville, but it applies to the Blues Deluxe Reissue as well.
