The goal with the 2 12s isn't to make the amp louder. Quite the opposite. I've just been using a 2x12 amp for many years and prefer that sound to 4x10s. There is a definite difference.
While I'll have the tranformer professionally installed, I do all my own amp maintenance and that includes occasionally changing power tubes which does require a re-bias so not having to remove the chassis or remove one of the speakers to get at the screw is a big plus.

Why do you keep assuming I can't play? I've been playing for over 20 years and I can certainly hold my own.

I'm not dissin' you dude, it just seems like allot of work for very little benefit, modding an amp instead of finding one you already like. The point being, if I'm gonna have more than one amp (which I do) I want them all to sound different and use them for different reasons. My Twin Reverb was my main gig amp for 35 years, I could cover everything with it, but for Blues and Country I liked my Deluxe Reverb better. For recording and home practice I liked my Roland JC 50 and my Princeton, for Jazz gigs I used the Twin or the Roland. It also depended on which guitar I was using, that's where I find most my tone and vibe.

Now that I'm retired I'm sizing down and don't need all the gear I used to use, just keep a couple good amps for home and small gigs and a good small SS for travel.

I'm sure you can hold your own, so can most the guys here. We each have our special skills. My Special Skills include: Country finger style picking, slide and palm pedal guitar and Jazz chord melody, which were my bread and butter for most my career. Not so good at Heavy Metal, I guess it just didn't move me in the right way.

Enjoy your playing and rock on.
