Hi guys, new to the forum, but not new to Fender (first Fender was 22 years ago). I saw that a member had posted a link to my Blues DLX RI retrofit with the Celestion Gold & G12H30 70th anniversary speaker that I carried out just over 6 months ago. I thought I may be able to offer extra insight that could be of benefit to some below.

The amp is extremely satisfying to play through, and now 6 months of playing full time on it still leaves me very happy. I'm glad that I partnered it with the G12H30 to add the slightly thumpier deeper character to blend with the chime of the Gold.

Overall, the sound is still unmistakably Fender Bluess DLX, but more 3D, if that's the right description. The tone is deeper, yet with improved clarity, articulate, but devoid of icepick cleans that most of us are probably familiar with. Single coils carry body (I'm using vintage SC's) My EQ setup with the speakers is 6-middle 8-bass & 8-treble.

I blend old school/new technology. My philosophy is always to have a great foundation, and in this case the BLS DLX RI & retrofitted speakers is my defining tone. My guitars are a custom classic modded Suhr strat (tip of that hat to the Fullerton '62 reissue for sure) and a dual humbucker equipped MusicMan.

I run a Diamond Compressor and various dirt/OD pedals in front of the Blues DLX RI. I run effects after the dirt, before the preamp in the traditional manner. effects are tape delays, vibes, rotary, chorus & tremolo etc coming from a Digidesign 'Eleven' rack (incredibly good recreations of vintage effects) partnered with a MIDI matrix instant access switching system. My playing style is reminiscent of Steve Morse, blending driven tones, hybrid picking, piano voicings etc.

Typically I like to run dirt/OD pedals into an EL84, 6V6 or KT88 driven power stage, as this compliments the pedal and overall tone for me more than the bubbly sound a G6L6 offers, however I credit the speakers in part in allowing the pedals to avoid that midrange 1k-2k hump that seems to be present for me with G6L6 amps.

Here is a pic of the twins in the main control room, devoid of the diamond Comp. Cheers -Fletch.

Hey, small world, Fletch.
You had posted a short article on this specific swap and I must say that it was THAT article that gave me the nerve to purchase the Gold for my BDRI.
If you go here you can hear a clip of my set up.
