I don't know about you Arjay, I think I rely on what Edison gave us.
Ahhh crud, I forgot the name of our current vice president.

That "new home" is a PRRI that you have yet to buy, young jedi.

Here we go again :) Do I really need another 6V6 amp? Maybe a nice 6L6, like a HRD III :D

Well, done got the Celestion Gold installed in the Blues Deluxe.
Took about 2 hours with all the interuptions and photo shots.
Gotta be careful not to damage that heat shielding aluminum foil.
Done damaged the aluminum foil. 8)
Very tight clearance between the chassis and cab sides tore the foil
at slight misalignment. Ideas for patching the exposed cab pending.

Played my classical on it for about 2 hours. The speaker is new and
thus has not been broken in. It seems the feed back on the classical is
somewhat sensitive at vol 3+ - I am kind of expecting that that issue
to subside as the speaker loosens up. The original speaker was the same
way and the feedback became less of an issue to none at all unless set at 5+.

Chimey trebles appear to be quite noticeable and can be toned down to
a more pleasant experience. May be what they meant by "harsh" at first.
Seemed like the speaker was "loosening" up already after 2 hours.
Then again, maybe noise exposure variance had occured. We'll see.

Anyway...
It DOES fit the BDRI complete with bell if anyone wants to know.
Also, I am sampling through the new Mackie 802-ZLV3 mixer and new SM57.
I should note that I am using an LR Baggs Para DI preamp for the classical
When used in consist of the BDRI and the mixer, I have three times the EQ
flexibility. Very nice.

Ahhhh, a non-believer are we?
That's gonna take some time, RJ
I gotta upload programs to resize the images.
Will keep you posted.
I am also planning on postin' a youtube video
for sound.
I am NOT, repeat NOT what you would call a good player
but I think I can do enough to get the sound point across
through those "crappy" computer speakers of yours.
hmmm, maybe that was someone else.
anyway, I am expecting more people to comment on my crappy
playing than my intentions of my attempt at conveying the sound.
All I can say is that it doesn't sound quite as muddy in the low-end
as the stock Fender Special Design which I thought sounded pretty
good for a stock speaker.

Thanks Arjay, but I think I can manage. I just have a lot of other priorities to do that are requiring my attention.

Hi guys, new to the forum, but not new to Fender (first Fender was 22 years ago). I saw that a member had posted a link to my Blues DLX RI retrofit with the Celestion Gold & G12H30 70th anniversary speaker that I carried out just over 6 months ago. I thought I may be able to offer extra insight that could be of benefit to some below.

The amp is extremely satisfying to play through, and now 6 months of playing full time on it still leaves me very happy. I'm glad that I partnered it with the G12H30 to add the slightly thumpier deeper character to blend with the chime of the Gold.

Overall, the sound is still unmistakably Fender Bluess DLX, but more 3D, if that's the right description. The tone is deeper, yet with improved clarity, articulate, but devoid of icepick cleans that most of us are probably familiar with. Single coils carry body (I'm using vintage SC's) My EQ setup with the speakers is 6-middle 8-bass & 8-treble.

I blend old school/new technology. My philosophy is always to have a great foundation, and in this case the BLS DLX RI & retrofitted speakers is my defining tone. My guitars are a custom classic modded Suhr strat (tip of that hat to the Fullerton '62 reissue for sure) and a dual humbucker equipped MusicMan.

I run a Diamond Compressor and various dirt/OD pedals in front of the Blues DLX RI. I run effects after the dirt, before the preamp in the traditional manner. effects are tape delays, vibes, rotary, chorus & tremolo etc coming from a Digidesign 'Eleven' rack (incredibly good recreations of vintage effects) partnered with a MIDI matrix instant access switching system. My playing style is reminiscent of Steve Morse, blending driven tones, hybrid picking, piano voicings etc.

Typically I like to run dirt/OD pedals into an EL84, 6V6 or KT88 driven power stage, as this compliments the pedal and overall tone for me more than the bubbly sound a G6L6 offers, however I credit the speakers in part in allowing the pedals to avoid that midrange 1k-2k hump that seems to be present for me with G6L6 amps.

Here is a pic of the twins in the main control room, devoid of the diamond Comp. Cheers -Fletch.
