Just curious, has anyone tried the G10 Greenbacks or G10 Vintage in their Bassman?

[EDIT]
I guess first I should have asked:do they even fit?

Most of the available contemporary 10-inch speakers should fit without incident. But beware any that use the "bell" magnet cover (Tone Tubby, some Webers, original Jensen P10Q's, etc)......it's likely that there will be chassis and/or tranny clearance problems with the upper pair of speakers.

Thanx Arjay.I contacted Weber & they said the blue/silvers will fit with the bell removed. Was hoping someone had maybe heard/had experiences these or other "british" speakers in a tweed Bassman.

Just for the sake of trying to be helpful (in case anyone finds this thread looking for info),the G10 Greenbacks fit obviously in the bottom but also in the top on the preamp tube side. They will NOT fit on the top power amp tube side, even with the can removed. This is not an issue for me at all because I only ordered two with the intention of mixing speakers in a x pattern.Anyway, just wanted to put the info out there since I couldn't find any definitive answers myself when I searched.

Now,what would go better with a greenie, Alnico Silver Ten or Alnico Blue Pup? :)

My gut tells me the Pups would fit better in the mix.

I can't quantify my hunch but take it for what it's worth.

Best of luck, let us know how it all shakes out.

Just got back from rehearsal & so far the Greenbacks are a big improvement even without being broken in.I was really missing those lower mids with the p10R's,can't wait to replace the other two.Being mostly a Marshall user in the past this (w/celestions) is much closer to what my ear wants to hear.Quite a nice sounding mutt of an amp going on so far (6V6's,Greenbacks,5F6-A),guess that makes it a "Bluesman Deluxe" since the term "Bassbreaker" is already taken.

Glad to hear the Greenbacks worked out!

I'm guessing you do know that Jim Marshall's initial designs were all based on Leo's original 5F6-A circuit......?

Great minds think alike!

Rawk on!

Yeah, my first choice for a combo was a Bluebreaker but it was over my budget & I wasn't seeing a lot of 'em used. The Bassman seemed the logical alternative but was also more than I could afford at the time so I settled for a BD. Luckily I found a good deal on a used BM & after talking with you & Supro decided to return the BD in favor of the BM.Thank you again, I appreciate all the help.

I'm just happy you ended up with the amp you wanted in the first place.

Indeed, those "Bass Breaker" custom 5F6-A amps are pretty rare -- I think Fender only cataloged them for one or two years.
