Just an observation concerning those switch booties. For all these years we've had plastic control knobs on the pots to insulate us, but at the highest voltage and current potential toggle switches( on-off & standby), a metal bat. Never gave it a second thought until now. I'm suprised this didn't surface years ago. As long as the strings aren't rubber-coated, I'll be happy ! Art

And let's not forget the exposed metal face plates on amps that are attached directly to or are a part of the chassis.

Any quality tweed amp should be great in tone i.e., Fender, tungstan, Weber, Tubedepot, marsh, etc. Twin for me is too loud, champ is too small, deluxe is jussss right.

Hey guys, has nobody looked At the lazy J amps?

http://www.lazyjprojects.com/

Some say that these are amazing tweed boutique amps.

Have gander, they come in 20watts and 80 watts.

They're built like old amps, but built with modern features like a half power switch.

Victoria = a copy

Victoria = a near-exact copy of what Leo himself designed and built

Fender = something similar but nowhere near as authentic

My biggest sold it and regreted it ever was my victoria 20112

a tweed deluxe with the sweetest crunchy tone I've ever heard.

I sold it because it didn't have much headroom.

i should have just used my bassman for clean and the victoria for everything else !!!

I was playing a Gibson melody maker with a single p-90 in the bridge and it was sooooooooo cool !!!!

The strats sounded good too.

I have been studying up on building a hand wired point to point tube amp. Looking to build the one out of Dave Hunter's "The Guitar Amp Handbook" on pg. 177.

I have been practicing up on my soldering, etc., but don't know if I want to invest the time or just go out and buy one and spend my time playing! Such a quandary....

If I do buy one, I'm leaning toward the Victoria Regal II. A great sounding Reberb/Trem amp that will give you anywhere from 5 to 35 watts depending on how you configure and load your tubes. Downside is cost.

I'm currently playing through a 65 Deluxe Reverb RI. I really like the tone but have had nothing but trouble out of it. It's going back to the shop tomorrow. I know I have one bad power tube and one bad pre-amp tube. An easy fix but will require matching the power tubes (2) and re-biasing. I think it also has a bad ground somewhere because when you plug in a guitar, you get a loud hum at idle that would prevent this amp from ever being mic'ed up.

Hopefully we can get it fixed.

I own a Fender '57 Deluxe, the only modern amp I own and I like it,but I have lusted after a Victoria copy of the tweed Super with 2x10s....I really would like to have one of the Victorias.
A fact that alot of people don't know is that the owner of Victoria found the guy who worked for the company that wound the transformers for Fender, and when he retired he had all the spec sheets for them and with Leo's notes and approval. The Victoria owner had a transformer company wind the trannies to the spec sheets as exact copies.
