I read, see, and hear that the Victoria Amps are built and sound more like the original Leo Fenders than Fenders own Custom models.

I'm leaning toward the Victoria Regal.

Any opinions?

I have the custom'57 deluxe and love it. I played it side by side with a friends Victoria and preferred the Fender. Maybe I'm just partial to the Deluxe, but to me it sounded warmer and seemed a bit more touch sensitive. Also, with the handwired Fender customs, quality is not an issue so,I think, why buy a copy when you can buy a reissue from the company that made it in the first place. I know a reissue is a copy too, but this thing sounds amazing. Just my two cents.

Victoria = a near-exact copy of what Leo himself designed and built

Fender = something similar but nowhere near as authentic

"Near-exact" does not make it a Fender. 8)

i've never heard a victoria, i want to own a 57 twin (good enough for Eric)and i'm in the process of building a deluxe. i'm gathering the parts at this stage. i have the original fender layout(got it off line).i'm going to keep it as original as possible. it's going to take a while 'cause i an't got the time.maybe put that electronic degree i got in the early '90s to good use.

Nor does a reproduction built in Corona.

And the Victoria won't have little rubber "booties" on the panel switches, a cage around the tubes, or any of the other CPA/OSHA/RoHS-mandated crap which are the hallmarks of all mass-produced goods made in the "modern era".

Little rubber booties and cages? I must be missing something on my 57 twin. It would not be the first time though.

I put none of the above are worth the cost when new, not enough fun for price of admission (though much fun too be had). That being said, I found a used Tweed Twin reissue for $1400...ah temptations

a good amp is a good amp and I really really, did I say really, like the sound of the 57 twin. It was a hard choice to make between one of those and the '64 custom Vibroverb I have now, but I would love to own both :) i also really really like the couple of Victorias I've played in stores too... wouldn't say no to one of those babies either. you can't have too many amps now can you?

Nope.

Any of the point-to-point tweeds whether original FEIC, modern FMIC, Victoria, Mission, Weber, etc sound great to me. Tone is what it's all about.

I wish you had added a category for "Boutique Builder".
That's what I would have voted for.
The amps being hand built by Chicken Pickin', Tungsten and a few others seem to have quality head and shoulders above the rest right now. Absolutely top notch components, meticulous attention to detail and build quality, and incredible sound. They are noticeably better than any of the manufactured amps right now IMHO.
I bought a Fender 57 Deluxe, RI but it died in a few days. The second one developed a nasty squelch/squeal after a couple weeks. It wasn't glass or cabinet buzz and had to be returned. Too bad, I would really have liked to own a "real" one from Fender, but the Chicken Pickin' FE3 sounds much better and costs less than half the price.

Excellent comparison with those pics. Sadly, I don' see any amps these days that use all the old school resitors, capcitors, solid core wiring, etc. unless you spend the cash.

Another thing you find when you pull the back cover off of most valve amps these days is the components are imports. I am an old school Amercian and I want products built in the USA by Americans. No offense to any of our friends across the ponds and borders. That's just me.

Another nice feature with amps such as Victoria, THD, etc. is the ability to change and miss-match tubes without having to have a rocket scientist re-bias the amp or sprinkle some holy water over it. They have "fixed bias" or user adjustable bias such as the THD amps (made in Seatle). You can run some or all of the power tubes or completly change them to anything you want to get the power output and tone of your liking for studio or gigging.

I currently play a Fender 65 Deluxe RRI. When you pull the covers off, you will find few if any American made components. Footswith - Mexico, Speaker -Italy, Electroics - China, and so on. Sounds pretty good when its not humming or howling feed back that clears the room.

Are the Deluxe 57's any different? I will buy quality and tone, not a name. I think Fender is slipping. Compare:

Just an observation concerning those switch booties. For all these years we've had plastic control knobs on the pots to insulate us, but at the highest voltage and current potential toggle switches( on-off & standby), a metal bat. Never gave it a second thought until now. I'm suprised this didn't surface years ago. As long as the strings aren't rubber-coated, I'll be happy ! Art
