Hi adriandavidb,

I have had the version II for a couple of years, I played the version III at GC. I only played the newer one for a short time, and it maybe sounded a little brighter than the older version, but very similar sound. The version III had some decent improvement too. You might try a search on this forum for "Blues Junior III", or "BJr III", this one has been discussed a lot already.

Here is an in depth review by an expert on the BJr. :)

I tried out an Epi Traditional Pro Les Paul on a B.J. III just last week and was extremely impressed by the sound of it,it sounded much fuller and had more presence than my Blonde Special Edition B.J.

There was no reference to a Version II or Version I for that matter.

"expert" huh ?...well, considering he sells his mods to the blues junior, he's going to say enough negative about the amp to convince folks they need his circuit tweaks. I've read where he said the new Mark III is very bright, then in the same paragraph he notes it's rounder...huh ? Can anyone direct me to a GOOD video or audio example that compares a stock BJ to a Billm modified one ? Don't think you'll find one, I've looked...

You'll never find a "good" video. You need to try them out in person. I've never hear a Blues Jr I really liked including the II that I tried a couple weekends ago. I agree with you on the Billm mods. He's already picking on the III. Maybe Fender should hire him so they can finally get it right LOL. :D
The BJ III I tried sounded a little darker to me. Like someone threw a blanket over the front of the amp.

I hope the new ones are better built, they should be using better pots a metal input jack and biased so they don't fry the power tubes. The BJ has the potential to be a great amp if they would just put a little more quality parts and workmanship in it.

I've owned 2 BJ's, I liked the first one better than the second, but traded it off for a Reverend Hellhound. Both BJ's were green boards, USA made amps. I'm really not sure what identifies a #1 from a #2 unless it's a Made in Mexico VS. a USA. Some changes were made, hence a green board USA and a cream board MIA, and a few other things along the way. I know several people with the MIA's and most like them. The major issue with the 2 BJ's I had was too much breakup, not clean enough for my playing (I know I'm weird). Also they seemed to be pushing the limit on the EL84's and the second BJ had a charred power amp board, from the heat. Later it just died and now is a project amp in my workshop, I may install a set of 6V6's just for fun.

There is no 1 or 2. They did not address the heat related issues in the new III series. The board is slightly better and so's the speaker. You're way better off with the Hellhound.

Why do they call it a 3? My guess was because of the other two PC boards? Idonno......???

Too bad they didn't fix the only real problem with those amps. I love my Hellhound, makes a great gig amp. [imImageg]

I think that you are right. Obviously, the first iteration of the BJr is version I. Now, Fender calls the newest BJr a "III". Hmmm, that leaves version II as the one in between I and III. In 2001(?) the first version (BJr I), had a circuit board revision and production moved to Mexico, hence BJr II. The BJr just underwent another revision, which gives us the III. BJr fans might be quick to note the differences in the three versions, as well as the similarities. :)

The original was NEVER CALLED A VERSION 1. The III might be how many times it goes into the shop before you finally get smart and sell it.:D

Johnny Z sweet amp. A friend of mine has a Reverend guitar, can't remember the model, I get to play it once in a while. It's a really nice playing and sounding guitar. I wish Reverend still made amps.

We've been calling the older BJrs version I, and version II since the version III came out. So, yeah, it was/is. :P Why do you care what we call them? Do you hate the amp so much that you don't even like to differentiate between versions? That's funny! There have indeed been 3 iterations/revisions of the BJr, US (I), revisions and moved to Mex (II), 2nd Mex revision (III).

There were a couple here on this forum who said there was no such distinction as "BJr III", until Fender called it a III. Nobody referred to the "Silverface" or "Blackface" of any amp until afterwards, until the model changed. Same thing here, there was no reference to a BJr version I or II, until the version III came out. Calling it BJr I, is way easier than calling it "the Bjr that was made in the US." :)

Because it's annoying and stupid. It's the same thing with a GDec. There's an original and a III. No I or II. Looking back, it looks like you're the one who started it LOL. Silverface has been called that ever since they changed to a silver panel. Tweeds, Browns, Blackfaces etc. Why not call the BJ III a Black panel and be done with it.

:? Doesn't matter if he sells creamed corn, he is still an expert on the BJr. By your logic, don't ever buy an air conditioner from Trane, because they sell air conditioners. And don't use those recipes on soup cans, because...you guessed it, they sell soup. I also hear that Ford has car experts, but they might say anything because, yep, they sell cars. :?
