This problem is getting consistently worse over time:

My amp has a very noticeable hum, warble, hiss, almost sounds like a small car engine at idle. The louder the volume, the louder the noise.

This happens with everything unplugged and removed from the amp, including the foot switch. I have a power conditioner on the power supply. Makes no difference. I have moved it to different rooms and different power circuits. Makes no difference.

Otherwise, the amp sounds great while playing and all functions and channels work properly, i.e. reverb, vibrato, clean.

Sounds like an internal problem with the amp/tubes to me. Any ideas?

Thanks

Wow. Now this amp is periodically howling like a scalded ape. Sent the dog running for deep shelter. The only way to stop the ear splitting howl is to turn it off. It always comes back when volume is above 4. I'm playing an American Deluxe Tele through it (noiseless pickups).

Hi woolecox,

It really sounds like you have a bad preamp tube (or two). If you have another known good 12AX7, try it in the first preamp position V1. If you still have the problem, return the original tube to V1 and try the new tube in V2 next. Position V3 is a 12AT7, so you can try the tube swap here also temporarily, but the tube should be a 12AT7 for normal use. Try the new tube in each preamp spot, V1-V5 until your problem gets better, or goes away. Make sure to turn the amp off and unplug before each tube swap, and know that the tubes will be hot. Try that and let us know the results.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
