I pulled the 12AT7 V-6 and had no signal at all.
So you want me to pull v-1 through v-5 one at a time to see whats up ?
Thanks I'll report back.

V6 is the pi, and common to both channels, and V1 is only for the normal channel. What Retroverbial is pointing out is that V2, V3, and V4 are only used in the reverb channel, which is where your issue seems to be, so try those first.

Pulled the NOS GE 12AX7 from v-2 and took out 90% of the noise.
I installed a new Tung-Sol RI 12ax7 and it seems great, i let it heat up for 20 minutes or so to make sure it was finished making noise.

so far so good !

Sure wish i had a working tube tester !!!!

Gee wiz

Man do I feel like a newby !!! I assumed the new tube was good and never went back through the preamp tubes to check (do a swap).

Go ahead laugh I got it coming for sure !!!!

Now v-1 is a jan spec 5751 nad v-2 is a GE 5 star 5751 and she sounds SWEET !!!!!
to late to crank her up ( Subdivision life).

Thanks again fellas

You do! It's called a TRRI. If the tube is noisy in the amp, verified by it's replacement having less/no noise, toss the noisy tube, no further testing necessary. :)

Only a fellow Hoosier would point out something so obvious.

O.K. now i can turn my attention back to my 5E3
I did a shellac job on it that i must say looks pretty cool !
covering my amp in dead beatle juices makes it pretty, they do still use bug bodies, don't they ????

Thankfully that amp is so simple even i can trouble shoot it !!!!!

No embarassment is warranted, BBM. We've all experienced similar WTFWIT moments. And -- regrettably -- we've all seen new parts fail right out of the box with neither rhyme nor reason as to the cause. The only sensation we feel at the moment is satisfaction that your amp is now pretty much as good as new and ready for whatever duties you assign it to.

RAWK ON MY MAN!

Thanks Arjay and everyone else who helped out !

As far as what I'll be using the twin for, I have had to turn down several requests from bands and even jamming opportunities over the last eight years due to the bail Agent gig, it was 24-7 for eight LONG !!!! years.

Hopefully now that I'm a 9-5 Mon-Fri Working stiff I'll get some chances to get out and play.

My only guitar gig for the last eight tears was taking on several students, mostly 40 year old + pot bellied white guys wanting to learn how to play the Blues.
They felt safe with me since I'm one of their kind.

I just published the same topic in spanish seeking for help. I bought a 65 Twin Reverb Reissue Amp 9 months ago and about aweek ago I started hearing a low noise like static, this noise has increase and now I hear like a thunder storm coming out of the speakers even if the guitar is not connected. Did you take your Amp to a qualified technician?, what did he said?, did you solve your problem?. Please let us know what did you do to solve this issue.

Regards,

Manuel

Hola Matay,

Likely a noisy preamp tube. Is the noise only on one channel, or both? Do you have the noise without a guitar plugged into amp?

Probablemente un tubo de preamplificador ruidoso. Esta el ruido solo en un canal, o ambos? Tiene usted el ruido sin una guitarra enchufo el amperio?
