I'm starting to notice that when I hit certain notes, my DRRI produces a strange sound along with the note... the best way to describe it would be a murky, cloudy sounding background noise behind the note... the note can be heard clearly, and this sound seems to be in the background.

I'm not sure if it has always done it or it is just starting, but I just plugged into it tonight for the first time in a while and it noticed it immediately. This thing is pretty much brand new... maybe 15-20 hrs of playtime on it.

Any ideas?

Check your speaker for rips.., also recheck your pickup height... if they aint the problem, I would look at your power tubes..

Sounds like a microphonic tube to me.

Try the "popsicle stick" test -- remove the upper rear panel and tap each tube lightly with the amp in the "on" mode. Listen for any noise coming through the speaker that correlates to your tapping. If any "clunking" or "pinging" is discerned, that particular tube should be replaced.

I agree, sounds like a preamp tube problem. It may be a rattling tube rather than microphonic. You may have to swap them out 1 at a time to find it. Likely V1, maybe.

Yeah, probably a bad tube. There are a few things you might want to check. Be sure all of the tubes are seated firmly in their sockets, and that all of the plugs on the rear amp panel are also well seated in their jacks. Another thing would be to see if the noise is happening when the norm or vib channel is being used. But if I'm not mistaken, the tubes are covered under warranty for something like 90 days. Art
