Yeah, decibel laws are probably the musician's best friend! Saves our ears and preserves musical integrity from becoming a "my amp is bigger than yours" goonfest. We all know that syndrome.

I confess I like Franz Ferdinand and Los Lobos (and even Santana's) small miked combo approach. Sets a good example for everybody. Dancers and front-row concertgoers can lose their hearing, too.

The DRRI just jumped up $150 to $950!!! This is obviously to make room for the '65 to come in at the DRRI's OLD price of $799. Clever, those bean counters!

I see ptp kit amps in my future. They're going to head into boutique territory soon. That's too much for a mass produced pcb amp that was designed over 40 years ago.

Dealer I talked to said it'll be PTP. That would make them directly price competitive with the PTP Ampeg J-20. Same tubes, but the J-20 has a 12" speaker (as opposed to the 10 in the PR). Though the Princeton adds reverb, it actually may come with the original 12 watts. Tough call, one of those deals you want to clear an afternoon and head down to GC with your fave axe.

The Princeton was a decent amp, not great. It was a step up from a Champ. The DRRI is a much better sounding amp than the Princeton and totally gigable imho. You would think there would be a wider price spread between them. Even PTP the Princeton is still a Princeton. In the realm of 12 watt amps a Tweed 5e3 completely blows it away tonaly.

Yeah, the call for the Princeton was really to get a cheap yet still gigable 6V6 amp which was kinda solved by the XD series. Now unless it's really cheap, which it ain't at $799 it's kind of answering a question nobody's asking, to wit: "Can we get a wimpy version of the DRRI at most of its price?"

Yep. Well Said. I'd pay about $400 tops even with it being ptp. It's not that complex of a circuit. The Deluxe 5e3 reissue isn't worth $1800 either. You can get an original late 50's Deluxe for 2000 to 2500. You can build one for anywhere from $450-650 complete. Plus I wonder if they're going to be made here, Mexico, or China.

Speaking of amps in this range, AMS, the guys who let you pay in 3 parts with no credit check have 2 Dent N Scratch DRRI's going for $729 right now. Just sayin'.

They won't say a word until release, probably in May sometime.

I would like that, if they keep it under $1000 for a P/P Custom Shop and something more affordable for the rest of us PCB Boys.

If they assemble a PTP in China, they could be competitive with Ampeg in the $800 region. The dealer I talked to said it was PTP, but he hadn't seen one, just what he was told by the factory rep.

I mean, who needs another PCB 6V6 amp like the DRRI in the same price range??? Other danger for them is: don't cheese out on the watts and get all politically correct about the original 12 watts. That's gonna take it out of live performance range and look at all the players who blew off the Vibro Champ XD for the SCXD based on gigable power alone! I had to have Randall Smith hot rod my Princeton Rev and stick in a 12" just to make it gigable.

The number of guys who want 12 watts is tiny--too loud for the bedroom, too soft for stage. Naw, ya gotta start with 15 watts minimum if you want to sell amps. The original 12 watt Princeton was in a different time and space.
