Need some help with this amp, before it drives me nuts. To begin with, it's SERIOUSLY bright....any way to tame that a bit????

Also, it sounds TERRIBLE with any pedals. I have a MXR Carbon Copy delay, Dunlop Crybaby, Dunlop Q-zone, & a MXR Script Phase 90 re-issue. If I kick in any one of them, the vol. becomes VERY loud & bright. I have a 5E3 & a 5C1 & the pedals are fine with both of those; also fine with my Peavey Classic 30.

Any suggestions, before I sell this thing??????

Have not tried any different pre-amp tubes..... would that maybe help????

Thanks.

The problem is the speaker. I had very good results replacing the stock speaker with an Eminence Patriot Delta Demon. About $60 or so.

If I'm not wrong, the Princeton Reberb has no loop effect. Then your pedals are serial to the input(s); For my point of view, there is no reason that the amp is louder when you switch your pedals exepted if you change the frequency spectrum and amplitude with your pedals.

That sounds weird to me. Mine takes pedals great. I'd take it back.

You should send those pedals and amp to me. No, really those are some nice pedals and should sound great with that amp. Maybe there is something wrong with the amp, as others have mentioned. You checked the tubes I guess?

Working on some new tubes right now & then I will get it biased properly. Then, we'll see what happens.......hopefully, that will make things RIGHT; if not, I will return it.

Have a full set of new tubes, just waiting for the bias probe.

Installed a full set of new JJ tubes. Checked the bias & plate voltage out of the box..... both tubes at 22mA & 440 V. Adj. the bias to 25 mA & both plates were at 435 V. This amp now kicks some serious a** & also takes the pedals very well.

Thanks to all for their help.

I can't say I think very highly of OEM tubes these days.

Glad you got it sorted out, dtjacob. The PRRI is fundamentally a great amp.

Update: After playing this amp for a couple of weeks, all I can say is GREAT.....everything I had hoped for. However, for a USA amp that cost almost $1000, it should never have had this problem out of the box. However, the dealer paid for the new tubes, so I really can't complain too much. All in all, a GREAT AMP.
