I'm having a problem with my '95 Blues Deluxe cutting out after playing for a couple of hours. I had the amp re-tubed and biased by a tech, but the problem persists. (Although the quality of tone was greatly improved)

Any suggestions out there of what to check next?

Yes solder joint or resistor heating in power supply

Tech thought a re-tube would do the trick. He said he checked thru it, but I can't verify what he "checked". I haven't contacted him again to tell him the problem persists. Wanted to check here first.

Several of you said solder joints, I guess this means checking thru each one-by-one?

Tanks for the responses

It is a lot of work/time to remove the main circuit board to inspect the solder joints, it wouldn't be a routine thing to do, I guess. The tube socket circuit boards have the solder side facing out, at least those are easy to touch up if needed. You might try just the tube socket boards first, because they are easier to get to, and are often the source of problems like yours. But, yes, look at each and every joint on all boards, I suggest using a magnifier as some bad ones are hard to spot with the naked eye. Look for cold (dull) and cracked joints, and any that are even questionable and touch them up. :)

Dangry,

Ask your tech what he think about that touble, sometimes a amp need to return to tech who can't test the amp like you can, the first time.
And with your information, now he can test another thing than tubes

+1 for Stratele52 advice, the tech will understand your concern if you can explain and even more show it to him.

Ok, I'm gonna call the tech and see what he has to say. Just wanted to get some more education before talking to him again. Thanks guys!

I love this amp, it sounds AMAZING with the new tubes and it's been with me for a while now. I''l keep ya posted on what happens.

Again thanks for the input.

+3 Cold solder joints are legendary in these amps. Sometimes when the amp heats up, a fractured joint can open up and cause a temporary failure. When the joint cools, the amp works again. With a 95 I'd get it recapped too.

What do you mean by "recapped"?

Cap is short for capacitor. Re-cap, is changing the caps to new ones. :)
