I'm a self confessed tube snob, however I picked up a used, mint condition Cyber Twin this morning from Guitar Center in Kalamazoo for $300. I would never purchase a new one for $1300 or used for the average going $600, but $300? Yup, that was doable. Fantastic amp (for that price).

I started bouncing in this forum to figure out what options I had for a midi foot controller (holy moly, new and exciting things compared to my analog world!) and thought I'd offer my ¢.02.

Sure, pal......whatever you say.

This is the "mean little teenager" playing his first professional gig......

(the photo is FORTY-TWO YEARS OLD)

I'll be playing pro gig #2100 the first weekend of next month.

Credibility beckons proof -- either put up or STFU. A keyboard alone cannot buy bonafides.

a bit far, closest i get to is Phoenix these days. Used to do some biz in Tucson, but if I get get down there, will let you know. Tombstone, never been there, sounds interesting, rich in history & legend. Used to listen to Alice Cooper's night show driving through the desert past the aircraft boneyard.

ciao,
johnny.

A.C. is a real fixture up in Phoenix. We don't get his radio show down here but I've heard it before in the evenings when I happened to be up at the McDonnell-Douglas plant in Mesa for training. He's also done some television PSA's for the Arizona Deptment of Transportation.

Phoenix is a bit of a stretch for a day trip but if you get to Tucson, give me a holler. I'm about an hour's drive away.

I hate to bring this thread back up after you guys have made up and all. Reading this thread was like watching a pack of wolves attack something. Why does the SS vs. Tube debate bring out the worst in everyone ? The wolves will have a field day with me. I'll explain.

I'm 45 and have played a 72' Twin for 25 years. I gigged with it through my wild 20's (as my future wife watched in the crowd as a stranger) my child raising 30's and into my 40's. I prefer a clean sound and don't particularly care for natural breakup, as I've always used external devices for this. I also have kinda been drawn to the Fender SS clean, I will even play gigs with them but always come back to the Twin. For me, the SS had something the Tube didn't and the Tube had something the SS didn't. So I lived a tonal nightmare of a life, torn between the two because I like certain aspects of both equally. Then it happen, Fender released the Cyber Twin. This thing had sounds and amp types the likes that I'd never heard combined in one amp.It swirled SS and Tube together into a perfect world. I bought it.....
So, I took my 72' Twin, that had so faithfully served me for so many years, down to the local amp tech. I told him to go through it from top to bottom, I then brought it home and gave it best cleaning it has ever had. I put it on a stand in my studio/man cave and even installed a light in the ceiling to shine down on it, it was the least I could do. I'll never get rid of it (until my children sell it in a pawn shop) does anybody watch Pawn Stars...but I digress, She can do what she does well but she can do it all, it's time to move on. Besides she's not alone, I also retired the 2 SS amps that she competed for playing time with. One is an amp that is the cleanest amp ever,(IMO) second to nothing, not even the JC-120, a 1990 red knob Power Chorus and her mid-rangie sister, a 1993 Ultra Chorus. The Cyber Twin has replaced them all, nicely, theres even a preset of the Ultra (Ultimate) Chorus which side by side you can't tell apart. I'm not new to these sorts of amps either. I've owned Vox VT series, Line 6 Flextone and Johnson, all of which stunk, except the Johnson, it was eerily similar to the Cyber but not the same. The Cyber is completely different consept from that of "modeling" amps. I frequently bring my Tube head buddies over and they all marvel over how the vintage tube amps inside sound like the real thing. One of my friends even bought one. For me Johnny is right, I've moved on to the future, although I speak fondly of my old stuff, I promise, I'm never going back, I've been gigging my Cyber for 3 years now and have no regrets. I don't worry about what will happen down the road, like repair problems, parts or distinuation, if you live your life that way you'll never get anything done. I'll just get what ever the replacement amp happens to be. You're right Johnny, Fender knocked it out of the park on this one.........Can't we all just get along.......

Glad you like your CT. Among my amp collection I have a Cyber Deluxe which is a great little amp. Still I won't be replacing my tube amps anytime soon. For someone that needs a variety of sounds the Cybers do a good job. I'm primarily a blues player and nothing will ever replace tubes in that genre of music in the near future. Not saying solid state is bad it's just not well suited for all music styles. Tubes and solid state I think are both here for the long haul. I've noticed used Cyber Twin prices pretty low lately, $300 is lower than I've seen but I routinely see them in the $500 price range. That's alot of amp for the money if your into the digital stuff.

Yeah! Cyber twin Prices are very low right now, at least the first gens are. I bought mine used for $350, hard to pass up considering what they cost new. The only reason I waited was because I thought it was just another mediocre modeling amp. The style music you play is definitily the key, that will decide alot of factors.
