I just purchased a Blues Deluxe Reissue and want to use an attenuator. Has anyone used an Bad Cat "The Leash" with a Blues Deluxe, or any Fender tube amp for that matter. What were your experiences. How about other attenuators? Looking forward to answers. :D

Why do you feel you need an attenuator?

I have a BDRI that I play at home. I have a Strat equipped with Fender SCN pups. I plug into input #2 and can set the volume control on the amp to "6" with the guitar on "10" without blasting myself out.

I had not paid attention to input 2 being –6dB. I will try it and see if that makes my quest unnecessary.

It'll still be pretty loud. -6db Isn't that big of a drop. It's basically so Humbucker equipped guitars won't distort as easily.

I do not have any scratchy pots or issues with mine. I just want to be able to drive it, hit the sweet spot and be able to be in the same room as the amp. So it sounds like I am back to my original question: which attenuator works best with a BDRI? :?

Works quite well for me. Read my post.

"wrong quote"

It is my understanding that Input #2 is for active (high power) pickups. From the manual:
"B. INPUT 2 - A lower sensitivity input (–6dB less than
INPUT 1), that provides cleaner response with high-output
instruments or a darker tone with “passive” instruments.
If both inputs are used simultaneously, their sensitivities
become identical."

And that stops you from plugging in a guitar with passive pickups because?

Hint: It doesn't. And as far has input #2 having a "darker tone", isn't that why we have tone controls?

Bottom line: Use whichever input suits your purpose. For me, input #2 works to reduce the amp volume level at any given setting of the controls compared to input #1.

I used a Mini-Mass for a while with great results, but I recently sold it because I prefer the versatility and control of OD/distortion/fuzz pedals. But as far as attenuators go, I was very pleased with the Mini-Mass. Plus it's very affordable, especially on the used market. Be sure to get the 50 watt version if you go this route.

ok maybe im misunderstanding, can you not use pedals with one of these
attenuators?

The Mini Mass and other higher quality attenuators are positioned between the output and the speaker. There is nothing to prevent you from using them with pedals. I did found a thread on another site where the person used a compression pedal in the effects loop with good results. So I will try my Boss CS-3 and see what kind of results I get with that.

OK, I tried input #2 with the volume on 6 and ... you must be deaf or wearing earplugs. I found the volume to be excruciatingly painful. There was a difference in the volume, but not that significant. I am looking at a Weber Mini Mass and Dr. Z Airbrake right now. Still wondering if anyone has used the Bad Cat The Leash. Thanks for all the input and ideas.

On the Weber website it says you should get one rated for twice the wattage of the amp so he'll need the 100W version.
