I'm sure that it might be difficult to obtain a SRV type sound without having some 100 watt tube amp turned all the way up, but there's gotta be some acceptable or way of doing it at comfortable house levels without disturbing the neighborhood.

I thought about maybe the blues junior but it just gets pretty poor reviews over at harmony-centrals message boards and reviews, unless you go the BillM mod route.

How about the blues junior tweed NOS? Seems like the reviews are much higher for that one.

Or if there is another fender family amp that could work well with the usual ts-9 or ts-808 that I overlooked please tell me.

I was thinking about the fender blues deluxe or hot rod also so I could gig with it later.

Just something that would put you in the ballpark for his sound is all I'm trying to accomplish at home.

Thanks!

Hey man. Don't worry about the mods on the Blues Jr. Play one at the music store and you'll see this is the one you want. The mods can be cool but, alas, with Fenders, you're dealing with an obsessive group of players -- I say this respectfully, guys! My two cents is that Blues Jr's kick $@! right out of the box. Over time, if you want to do some mods piecemeal to pick up some of the tones guys are incorrectly describing as critical, go for it. Also, a big part of the SRV sound, as you know, is to play the heaviest strings you can handle, tune down to Eb, and be aggressive. The Blues Jr will allow you to take care of the Fender tube vibe, IMO.
Enjoy.

He was also fond of Ibanez Tube Screamers. Some sources say he two of them. You don't really need a 100 watt amp. Most of his tone came from his fingers. I've seen him play Dano's and get the same tone.

I played a 65 Super Reverb and fell in love. Total SRV tone, but the 65 Twin Reverb was awesome too. I got to push the Super a lot louder than Twin at Guitar Center. Anybody recommend the differences for these amps? I love the Super's tone, but the lower wattage sucks, Twin=85 watts, Super =40watts. Anybody know if the are comparable in volume?

Never judge an amps volume by it's wattage. It's possible for a 40 watt to be just as loud (if not louder) than a 100 watt in some cases. You just have to judge each amp on it's own.

Don't forget to use telephone cables for strings and tune down two semi-tones.

the cyber twin se is a dual 12ax7 tube preamp, robust stereo power amp (2 65 watts) two 12" celestion speakers. all the amps & fx you would ever need. w/ the power & different timbres you would never have problem w/ volume.

Props to CA Feathers for his settings on the Blues Junior. When I play it, I've got to admit that it doesn't sound like SRV, but it is fantastic tone. CA Feathers I just want you to know you've contributed a lot to us here.
