This makes the third one.

I buy them retube and bias them, make them sound like Sweetness
and sell them, cause heck I have the best sounding bassman in the world and so why do I need the 65 Deluxe ???

Because they are so darn SWEET !!!!

Every time I spot one on sale localy I snap them up.

Fender Gas, man its Fun !

Might keep em both for awhile, till I can't justify it for what ever reason.

Some day I'm gonna build a nice 2x12 or 4x10 extension cab to see what it will do with a bigger cab pushing a lot more air.

I had one in a closed back cab many years ago and it
had a good low end along with more headroom it seemed.

I still have a hard time getting used to the contrast from the normal and tremolo channel (brightness)

So anyone had one speaker that just flat out improved the overall sound of a DRRI ?

Getting rid of the italian jensen's was the very best thing I could do for my bassman, wondering what might happen with a good weber in the DRRI ???

as long as you are flipping them and making a profit. i would think it's strange to get several reissues

Strange ? Me ?

You don't know the half of it !!!

Hey I get a kick out of taking stock amps and making them sound amazing.

I do however make a profit 99% of the time.

On the other hand Most Fender amps sound pretty amazing bone stock, what I do is for the OCD Guitar player

What brand of tubes do you put in your DRRIs? Mine needs to be re-tubed and I'm thinking of going all JJ (Eurotubes set), all Tung Sol, or a mix of both.

Thanks.

Bump.

Anyone have any opinions on tubes for a DRRI (especially JJs, as I'm leaning toward the full set from Eurotubes)?

Thanks.

JJ has some nice tubes but I wouldn't recommend their 6V6s, they're not a good match for the DRRI IMO. I'd go for the Tung-Sol or if you wanna go crazy pick up some nice NOS RCA :)

Is that from experience? If so, what didn't you like about the JJs in your DRRI and, consequently, what did you like about the Tung Sols?

Thanks.

Here is what i have found to be the VERY BEST !!! tube set for my drri's

And yes its from a lot of experimenting

V-1 a nos 5751 (all over e-bay)
V-2 & 3 the new tung-sol 12AX7 RI tubes
For power tubes I have found the RI Tung-Sol 6V6GT's to be perfect !!!

That combo of tubes makes the 65 come alive !
I add a Visual sounds comp 66 or Route 66 comp/overdrive in front of it and it flat out sings !!!!

Yes from experience, the JJs sounded too harsh IMO while the Tung-Sols made this sweet amp even sweeter, that's my not so technical review :) it just sings to me, every note is clearer and the tone is heavenly! I have NOS RCA 6V6 now but I have no problem going back to the Tung-Sols, I liked them that much! I'm also running 5751 but don't recall if it's in V1 or V2 (I use the reverb channel more...), it was an attempt to reduce the flabby bass at louder volumes.

I won't even get into how sweet it sounds thru a 15" JBL :D

I like reading these things because although I have vintage DRs and use NOS tubes, the tubes won't last forever and I like knowing what people have found to sound good.
I think I'll buy some Tung-Sol tubes to play with.
I already know I don't care much for the Groove Tubes.

I've used the Tung-Sol RI 6V6GT's in three different DRRI's with great improvements in tone over the Groove tubes that were stock.

I'm using the Tung-Sol 5881 RI's in my 59 Bassman LTD also and there too It gave me a tone improvement.

So far I have yet to find a 12AX7 that I like better than the RI T/S

Whatever they are doing there at that plant, it seems to be working
