I am a huge fan of the Fender M-80 with 1 12"speaker and 100 watts. I have an opportunity to buy one in good condition for $200. I have two questions:
Are parts still available for the M-80?
Which Fender amp currently in production most closely matches the perfomance of the M-80?

See this thread for some info regarding older OOP solid-state Fender amps......

As for what current amp might closely emulate the M80's tone, I couldn't say. Perhaps the FM65 DSP?

Best of luck, HTH

Wow! The ol' gray carpet covered M-80 1x12 combo! I got one of those used in late 1989 when I was just starting out on guitar. Sold it in 2003 for $100 plus a bottle of tequila and thought I got the better end of the deal  $200 is way too much. Someone right now on my local craigslist is selling one for $80 http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/m ... 85620.html

I doubt Fender still is stocking parts for an amp that was discontinued 20 years ago and wasn't that popular to begin with. But it depends what parts you are looking for:
*Common components like capacitors, resistos, diodes, input jacks, grill cloth, etc are used for every amp so just google "guitar amplifier parts" or something like that and you'll see dozens of places that sell spare parts.
*If you are looking for parts specific to the M-80 like the gray carpet covering, control faceplate, circuit board, chassis, cabinet, etc then scour ebay or craigslist for donor amps or contact http://angela.com/ since they have some hard to find parts or might point you in the right direction.

As for what current Fender amp performs like the M-80....none of them. Fender discontinued the M-80 line for a reason. OK clean channel with a high gain distortion channel that did not appeal to many customers. It works well for punk and some metal though. Fender can never get metal distortion right, which is what the whole M-80 line was aimed at. But I would take an old M-80 any day before any new Fender amp in the $100 price range.

I bought a M-80 for $70 NZ about 2 yrs ago. As a harp player, I have looked for something that can handle the peculiarities of a Crystal type mic (feedback/overdrive etc). I had been using a vox 15 solid state but it kept screaming at me. well the M-80 suits me just fine.
I just wish I knew more about it. eg output wattage etc.
