Does anyone know if you can purchase Fender branded Groove Tubes? I'm going to replace the tubes in my Vibroverb Custom and since I like the way the amp sounds now I want to replace the tubes with the same ones. I contacted Groove Tubes but apparently Fender and GT don't actually talk to each other so the Fender part number means nothing to them. How can I go about replacing the tubes?

You should be able to buy the same tubes from GT because they are just labeled Fender when they are sent to the company...not made especially for Fender.
Just find out the number for each tube, like 12AX7,or 6L6GC or whatever they are and go to a local music store that carries Groove Tubes....you won't need the Fender part number.

But the Groove Tubes are identify with number like 4,5,6 meaning early or late volume break up.
And Groove Tube sell 4 types of 6L6 !
So wich one in Fender Vibroverb ?
If you go to the Groove Tube web site for infos, they said to write to Fender consumer relation.

I've been ordering mine from GC. You can select your hardness (low 1-3 Blue label early breakup, med 4-7 White label mid range, high 8-10 Red label late breakup) The tubes also come in the "R" series which is Russian, and the "S" series which is Svetlana made in the JJ factory. I prefer the "S" series, red label (high 8-10) myself. :D

Any chance you know what the difference is between the gold and silver series? No info on the GT website.

There are a lot better choices than GT.

From the GT page:

"Groove Tubes Silver Series are tested and warranteed to meet or exceed factory specifications but are not sold in matched sets or premium selected grades as are our traditional Groove Tubes product line. Silver Series tubes are excellent for "normal" tube replacement applications and offer exceptional value. We do not recommend these for the critical high gain V1 stages of high gain guitar amps, but we do recommend these for the other less critical stages such as V2-V6 stages. If you need a selected low noise, non microphonic tube for your V1 high gain stages, please choose a hand selected ultra premium tube from our traditional Groove Tubes preamp tube selection."

The Gold series are sold in premium selected, matched pairs, etc. :)

I think that you might like the "S" gold series GTs. They are made in your favorite tube factory......can't remember the name....oh yeah, JJ! Can't argue with the fact that they are a little pricey though, but what is confidence worth? :D I suppose that Eurotubes could probably provide a very similar JJ tube for less money if you email them the details of the tubes that you have. :)

I have no confidence in GT's at all. They are way overpriced for what you get IMO. Just for the record, JJ's aren't the only tubes I use. Before I plunked down the money on GT's, I'd go NOS and be done with it. Actually I already have. I've use NOS from RCA, Sylvania and GE to name a few.

I recommend JJ's as fairly priced, high quality, great sounding current production tubes. I never wasted a NOS tube in my HRDlx LOL.

I won't use gold pin or cryogenic tubes. I survived over 40 years without them, I figure I'm okay. I seriously doubt that either a musician or audience will be able to tell if I used gold pinned tubes.

 I have a friend who says that the gold pins are just "covered with sucker juice."

Indeed.

We're talking guitar amps here -- not a celestial navigation module for the space shuttle.

Yeah I know but like I said, I love the way the amp sounds and do not wish to change anything about it so I figure the best way to keep the tone is but using the same tubes. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Other tubes are not better than GT, just cheaper. GT don't make tubes

I agree with you Voodoo Blues.
But witch GT 6L6 ? tubes made by tesla (JJ ? ) , or made by Sovteck or.......
GT buy tubes from 4 builders.
IMO chance are Fender put the cheapest one in their amps

Typically the stock tubes will be Sovteks (your color label), and for the same tube you would want the Gold Series GT 6L6 R (same color label). In case you aren't aware, most of the time you can see the original markings on the tube in light black lettering, the GT or Fender label can cover them up also. Sometimes it's hard to see the original lettering. But I don't see any markings on the S tubes made by JJ, other than the GT label. I think that the S tubes are made especially for GT.

I'm well aware of that. GT is nothing more than a sorting/grading house. Groove tubes can be from a few different manufacturers. How can you consistently nail your tone when you may not be sure who manufacturers them? My HRDlx originally came with re-branded Sovtek 5881 power tubes. They just stamped GT on top of the Sovtek logo. They sounded like arse. Other tubes ARE better than GT's AND cheaper too. There are no guarantees that just because you replace your GT's with the same color band that they will sound the same. You need to know who actually made them. You can save some money by buying the same tube without the GT on them.
