Hello

I just bought the new 4x10 Hot Rod Deville III and it sounds fantastic clean. When I turn on the overdrive, it doesn't have that creamy "Fender Distortion" sound that you usually hear from other Fender amps. It seems that it not only doesn't give as much drive as it should, but the sustain even seems a bit less too. The tone quality seems to be more tinny (a lot more treble even though it's not set that way with the eq knobs) and has a little bit of that "distortion recorded direct sound". Even though it doesn't sound completely horrible, it seems like something may be wrong with the amp. Has anybody else experienced this with this amp? What part of the amp could have the problem? Thanks for your feedback!

Hi rdhornst,

The new series III just came out about a week ago. Probably not too many owners yet. I have the series II HRDvl 4x10, and I never really liked the drive, or more drive channel in that amp, or the HRDlx amp. The series III is supposed to have improved the drive channel, but I haven't heard one yet. Maybe the best thing that you could do is, take your guitar to a store like GC that has some of the 4x10s and play a couple of them to compare the sound to yours. I say to take your guitar, to make the comparison with the same guitar that you use with your amp. If your amp sounds different than the others, take your amp back to where you bought it, as you still have warranty.

Not at all Tissan. I'm not directing my comments at you. Please don't take offense. The OP has a brand new amp and he's already questioning the sound of it. I just think it's a shame they can't get this thing right, right out of the box.

I sense a great disturbance in "the force".

The HRD amps never had "Creamy Fender Distortion" they had "Icepick In The Forehead Distortion" at least to my ears. :?

I always thought of the OD modes as "fizz" and "more fizz".

Just a follow up to my original post: I exchanged my Deville 4x10 Series III for the older generation Deville 2x12. I encourage everybody to test out the new series III and hear the difference first hand (play same riff on the amps side by side/back to back). Some may consider it an improvement (enhanced mid-range overdrive), while others may prefer the older generation's creamier sound.
