Hi there,
Can anyone tell me where to get info about the Blues jr Tweed Relic with Jensen P12n? I'm buying one but would like to know more about it. I assume it wasn't popular because I can't seem to find info anywhere.
Thanks for the help.
DL

I don't know anything about them, but I saw one in GC one day. Personally I didn't care for the looks.

google is your best friend.
from what i can tell, they were a limited edition a few years ago. sold only at guitar center.
here's a picture:

i understand relic guitars, but why you would want a beat up amp with a coffee stain is beyond me.

Same reason you would want a beat up new guitar. Instant cred and you don't have to worry about nicking it up on the bar circuit. (note sarcasm)

Thanks for the responses so far. I am really looking for technical or marketing info that was released by fender when these amps were first marketed.
The reason I am interested in this piece is because it sounds amazing and I think it looks cool.
Most every thread I have found seams to focus on the silly asthetics and high cost. This I don't understand. If you play it against a standard blues jr I think you'll find a sonic difference. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you don't, but it is different. At $500 I don't consider this an "expensive" guitar amp. As far as the looks, doesn't visual appeal impact nearly every purchase decision we make?
Peace. DL

I bought an American Tele in 82. I had to put it away for 12 years to keep my son's fingers off of it but it's been back out for three years now. It's been played through some of the biggest p.o.s. amps over the years. I thought it was broken until a talented friend of mine was trying to play it through my old peavey and was so frustrated we went next door so he could play it on his Fender twin. So that's what it was suppose to sound like. :D since then I've been using my son's line 6 (turn abouts fair play.)

Well, now it's getting it's own stable mate (thanks hun.) Just brought myself to drop some change and ordered a laquered tweed Blues Jr but I can't find so much as a mention of the amp on the Fender site. Are they something new, something left over? Something marketed only through the biggest chains?

Can anyone give me any history on them?

The Relic Blues Juniors I've seen have been equipped with the Jensen P12R, which is great if you want a 1950s AM radio tone. To me, it sounds like a kazoo on steroids. If you see one with a P12N installed, it's a better choice.

The electronics in the Relic are the same as all other Blues Juniors. The biggest problem with them is that the case screws are acid-rusted, and they often rust in place. I've had to drill some out in order to change speakers or get inside the amp. Overall, the "relic-ing" is very cleverly done, but doing the whole screw instead of just the head was a real mistake.

I own a BJ relic, and I love it. My tele deluxe with vn pickups sounds incredible and with the Jensen speaker, the tone is full but still cuts through. I bought it used, and sitting next to the new amps in the store, it did look kind of scraggly, but along side an old super reverb, it fits right in. I have a boogie and a marshall, and am always afraid of getting dents and scratches when moving them around. Don't have to worry about that with a relic.
