Hey! What are some thoughts about the best amp for country music? We are talking something than can span a bit of a range from Toby to Urban to Paisley. I don't need a terribly large rig. A 40-50 watt would probably do it. I could go bigger. I hate to go with something small like a 15watt.

Thoughts?

If you are after that clean country twang,
much the same amps thea you are getting recommended in the other Christian Music thread.

Deluxe Reverb or Super Reverb,
The Twin Reverb though used for a lot of country is proably overkill and overweight too :)

As far as Fender amps go I'd agree with peterp. Brad Paisley uses a Dr Z amp that I'd love to own. :)

Scroll down this page to see effects/pedals that Brad uses. I assume most country use similar stuff,

Of course there are a lot of cheaper brands but this will give you a list to work from.

A friend of mine played rythym with Waylon Jennings through the late 60s/70s and I asked him what amp they used the most...he said a Fender Super Reverb....I figured that would be just right for that country honky tonk....if that's what you're after.

For traditional "my horse done died, my woman done lied" country, a Twin Reverb with JBLs......you'll never hear a Tele sparkle more brightly than with that amp.

New country (Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, Little Texas, etc) needs an edgier grunt. My recommendation -- a Prosonic head (if you can find one) through a DT-412 cab.

A Twin will certainly bring out the best in a Tele for that clean chicken pluckin' lead sound and it remains clean until really cranked but a Super or Deluxe Reverb will give you a lovely clean sound but you won't be able to turn them up like you can the Twin.As for effects Brad Paisley relies on Keeley Electronics compressors (both types) a Keeley Katana ,a Boss Blues Driver 2 and an Ibanez Tube Screamer reissue and of course his Dr. Z amps.

The BF Pro Reverb that I have has some really good clean tones also, and with 2 12s and 40 watts you can get some volume too.

I've been at it for over 15 years, and I'd say I see more Twins out on the road than any other amp. I will say that in the last several years I've been seeing lots of boutique amps as well. It seems like when Brad Paisley started playing Dr.Z amps, everybody had to have one. Although on his first couple tours he was playing a pair of Vox AC-30's. Play what sounds good to you.

Yeah, the Twin Reverb would come to mind as the foremost candidate, but a Vibro-King with low distortion power tubes would be my choice for rhythm and lead work. Art

Seems to me that more recently, country guitarists have been using far more distortion than previously. Many newer songs have moved away from the clean sound.
