I am wanting to buy a new fender amp.I am torn between a srv custom vibroverb and a supersonic. The vibroverb is very pricey and from what I hear trouble ridden.I have also never played one The supersonic is less than half the price and I really like the sounds I can get from it when I tried it out at GC.I am asking for some different opinions from other players thanks in advance for some help.

Hi - If your tone goal is to clone SRV, the custom vibroverb is the absolute best amp on the planet to do this....instant SRV tone with a good strat with vintage pickups. To achieve that great texas/SRV tone, the amp however needs to be cranked fairly loud, and that would be too loud for 99.999% of guitar players on this planet....The custom vibroverb is really for semi-pros or pros who play a gig level all the time.

If you want more versatility, the super-sonic is the best option, and it is still an amp for the pros. A Stratocaster through the Bassman channel with Reverb set on 1.5 to 2.0 sounds absolutelly georgous. There is a very good setting on the Burn channel to achieve a texas blues/SRV tone right from the SS....I sold my tube screamer and I am now only using that setting for the few SRV tunes that I occasionally do. I also use the Vibrolux channel from the SS with a Uni-Vibe set on Vibrato for Cold Shot or Couldn't Stand the Weather and the SS delivers, it's almost scary how close I get to SRV's tone on CD with the SS.

If you are an effect pedal freak with like 25 stomp boxes in front of you, one amp may take them better than the other. The SS sounds so good it also helped simplify my effect pedal chain. The absolute best would be to try them both before you buy. In my opinion, I would rather pay the big nucks for a Vibro King than a custom vibroverb, but I ended with the SS 1X12 combo for its versatility & TONE !

Good luck !
