I really like my 4x10 HR Deville but... I think that I'd like it better with different speakers. I've got some eminence speakers from my 1972 Sound City cabinet but they're 16ohm. You Know what's coming don't you? Can I replace the stock 8ohm speakers in my amp with these and just wire them differently? Please don't get all technical with me. Keep it simple please and thank you!

Yes, but the answer is "technical".

You'll need to wire up two independent pairs of speaker from your Sound City cab in parallel. Thus, each pair of 16Ω speakers will present an 8Ω load. Then install a ¼-inch phone plug to power each of the pairs of speakers. Finally, plug one pair of speakers into your HRD's "main" speaker jack and the other pair to the "extension" speaker jack. That will present a total load of 4Ω to the amp, which is the minimum that can be safely used with it.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay

I don't really wanna run an ext cab. I want to pull out the 8ohm stock speakers and replace them with these 16ohm speakers. If I wired all 4 16ohm spkrs in parallel would that be 4ohm and acceptable? Also, If I wanted to test these 16ohm speakers in their own cabinet before installing them would I use a dummy plug in the Regular speaker jack and plug these into the ext cab jack?
