Dear all

A short history of what I do: I play guitar since 20 years. Currently I am working on my album; sounds like (the National, Cure, Pretenders, Suzanne Vega etc.). So, it's about a clean or crunch sound. It has to be authentic, real, airy etc. I had an old VOX AC30 (1970's), which had a beautiful sound, but this can not be repaired any more. Important: I have no gigs, just recording stuff in my small home-studio.

I am searching for a solution for the recording purpose only. Recently I've tried out the FENDER 65 PRINCETON REVERB and I fell in love. On the other hand, because of the requirement to be as silent as possible, I decided to buy some isolated speaker like this: http://grossmann-audio.de
That's why I actually don't need the whole combo amp FENDER 65 PRINCETON REVERB, but only the FENDER head.

Which FENDER head is gonna give me the sound like FENDER 65 PRINCETON?

Maybe FENDER SUPER-SONIC 60 HEAD ? Or some other?

thanks!

None.

Your best bet would be to get a Princeton Reverb, disconnect the speaker, and wire the amp to the 8Ω cabinet of your choice.

None. Fender has a history of excelling at combo amps, hence they only have a handful of heads these days. Your current Fender amp head choices are 4: Supersonic (tube), Bandmaster VM (hybrid), Jazzmaster Ultralight (solidstate), and the FM100H (solidstate). See here: http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... amplifiers

None of these will sound like the small 15 watt Princeton Reverb. Fender had a lot more variety of heads in the 60's and 70's, but none are similar to the Princeton Reverb either. Actually, come to think of it, Fender never did make a low wattage head.

It's sacriledge to say on a Fender site, but you might have to go with a non-Fender head. There are a ton of 15 watt amp heads out there from other makers these days, but I'm not sure which ones will sound "Fendery" as most try to cop the Vox or Marshall sound.

Thanks.
Since I have no time to check out all the alternative non-fender heads, I think I'm gonna buy the PRINCETON...

That's your best bet to buy the Princeton and as Arjay said disconnect the speaker and run it through the cab/speaker of your choice.BTW I'm a hopeless tone chaser and I found my most versatile dream amp in 2008,it was a Vox AD120VTH head that can be set at 1,5,15,30,60,or120W. This amp models not only the most desireable Vox amps but several vintage Fender and Marshall and even Dumbles with amazing realism. The resemblance to the originals is uncanny.I picked it up used for $400 and for that price I got about 16 of the best amps ever produced plus it has 16 pedal effects plus modulation effects like Leslie,Univibe,Vibrato etc. and the Leslie even slows down and speeds up gradually just like the real thing. It also has a great reverb plus various echo modes and 64 programmable settings. It would be worthwile checking out down the road. BTW one of the settings-Tweed 1X12 is a '58 Princeton and is quite authentic sounding.
