I just replaced my tubes with JJ tubes and after installing the i got this very loud hum. I did not use a balanced 12AX7 for the phase inverter as i have been told that it is not necessary. I reinstalled the old GT 12AX7 in the phase inverter and no problems, i did make note of which tube came out of each socket. I am kind of stumped on it. Any output would be great and thanks.

Phase inverter needs to be balanced to send an equal signal to each of the power tubes.

+1 for balanced noval triodes for the phase inverter circuit, it is better for signal.

Sometimes valves make hum due to filament (on HR it is AC with balanced 100Ohms to the ground);

Test current JJ V1 in V3 and an old GT in V1 for the trial, the "hummy" valve has to be in a box waiting better days.

Let us know.

By the way, try to make a mark on valves to know where they are from.
