I have been using my supersonic combo for about 1 year. I really love this amp. I mostly use the virbrolux channel but sometimes find it a bit harsh depending on where I am playing. I have read in forums about removing The C7 cap from first volume pot R12. Will this help with the problem and is this advisable? If so how do you do this I know nothing about opening up an amp. Or does anybody have other suggestions?

Are you still using the stock tubes? First thing is to get rid of them! I would do that before any mods! I use RCA, Mullard and Telefunken tubes in mine and I don't think it is too trebley! I have black plate 6L6GC RCA power tubes. Good amp deserves good tubes!

Thanks for reply. I am using the stock tubes. Don`t really know anything about choosing valves. Do you reckon they all need replacing or do you start with one or two and keeping going till you get the sound you like? What do you recommend? Also does the volume difference between Vibro & Bassman bother you or have you found a solution?

I would start with V1 and v2 preamp tubes and the PI tube!

It is the tube closest to your power tubes a 12at7. Good prices on NOS for these 12at7s can be found!

What guitar are you using? I can get a lovely sound from the Vibrolux channel for solo chord-melody work. I'm using an Ibanez AM50. It runs 2 humbuckers (neck & bridge). I carefully dial my tone knob and tweak the clean eq. I can see how you have too much treble, but I wonder if there is some simple knob turning you have overlooked.

Could it be the actual guitar rather than the amp?

V1 right now has a Telfunken. I believe it is called a smooth plate and it was actually labelled Fisher and made in West Germany! I have a RCA BP short plate 12ax7 in V2 and V3! 6L6GC RCA BP for power tubes! I also have a couple more ANOS tubes in it. The two 12at7s I have only changed the PI and not the one for reverb yet! Going to order some!

Boogers

I am using a USA 2008 Standard Strat. Just at times the vibro seems quite harsh. Normally have the Treble set at 2.5 or below (sometimes almost 0) with the bass up at 7 or 8. The trouble with this is when you change to the Bassman channel the sound has way too little treble. You got any advice? And what do you think about the volume difference between the Vibro & Bassman?

I have put some new tubes in my amp and it sounds really great now. Much warmer and the treble seems to have calmed a bit.

V1 ECC83/ECC83S/JJ-TESLA
V2 ECC83/ECC83S/JJ-TESLA
V6 ECC83/12AX7LPS/SOVTEK

Thanks for advice
