Just purchased a Blues Junior NOS last night. I really like the sound however, I noticed that one of the EL84 tubes does not glow near as bright as the rest of the tubes.
Could someone please tell me what this means--is this a problem that needs to be addressed? Should I return this amp?

with the amp turned off and plug out of the power socket, take out the power tubes and reinstall them. Do this at least a couple of times after retesting it.

There may be dirty contacts forcing one of the power tubes to work harder than the other.

Try that first but if it continues I would take it back.

A valve is a lamp with low temperature emission filament, that the reason for low "red" light. According to my experience, it is not abnormal. However if you have a doudt, go back to the dealer and ask for plate current measurement of each push pull valve and a bias checking.

(take care with high voltage)

Are you talking about the orange glow, while you are not playing (filament)? If so, note which position is brighter (right or left looking at the back) After unplugging the amp from the electricity, and letting the tubes cool, swap the output tubes position with each other, V4 to V5, V5 to V4 and see if the problem stays with the tube. If the problem stays with the tube, then the tube might have a problem. If the one on the right is brighter, then you switch them and the one on the left is brighter, then it is a tube issue. If the problem stays in the same position (V4 or V5), then the problem is in the amp.

Yes, definitely take it back for warranty. I suggested the swap because if you know that the tubes are bad, they can just put in new ones without sending the amp out. If it isn't the tubes, then you'll know that you might have to wait awhile for the repair. :)

Bring the amp back,it may be something inside the amp that's causing the tube to go dimmer and a new tube may work well for a while and then you may have the problem come back after the warranty expires. I have a Blues Jr. and love it-just a great little amp.
