I have an early 90's Deville 212 that I love. Here's the thing- I don't play that much anymore (but we all know that can change) and a baby is on the way. So the times I can Crank it up are going to be few and far between for a while. And the only way I can get the sound and crunch I want is to do exactly that.. crank it! I was hoping for some advice here. Is there a pedal I can use to push the amp at lower volumes and get my sound or should I go with a Blues Jr. or something else smaller. Smaller would probably be easier to keep out in the room rather than hauling the Deville out from the closet when I want to jam.

Any idears?

Hi Blues Down,

Mate here is what I would suggest for you.

Even if you did buy a blues junior to which it will give you great tone at low levels, it will still be too loud for the bubbas and the wife.

I have worked around this same issue that I had by timing my jams when the wife and children are out together shopping or otherwise.

Then I just crank up the amp without worrying about anything.

Save your money and plan your jams.

Good Luck. :)

Hi bluesdown,

You might consider something like a POD which you can use with headphones, and it's stereo. The PODs have many amp models, and many effects which are all software based and updateable. The amp models sound very realistic and just about any effect you can think of is there. It can also be used for recording directly to your computer. I made this video and all of the sounds are using the POD into my computer, no amps or mics. I have really enjoyed it and it will not disturb anyone. And you can have your amp for the rare occasions that you are able to crank it. Just a thought. :)

BTW congrats on the new baby, a real life changer, for the better. ;)

Edit: Forgot to mention that the POD can also be used as a preamp or effects pedal in front of your amp to get your desired sound at lower amp volumes. :)
