the HRD series got to be a best seller because of it's price point and because people perceive it to be really, really loud.

I doubt most people who buy them are/were professional musicians who rely on their equipment night after night like I did way back. I have to admit, the price point attracted me because I wasn't working 4-6 nights a week anymore playing out or recording or whatever. Plus it was a Fender. The last Fender amp I bought before the HRDlx was 1976. My Twin was as reliable as the Sun coming up in the morning. The HRDlx was my dark cloud. More than a few were bad. My amp tech saw anywhere from 3 to 8 a week according to him on a fairly steady basis. We became friends because of that amp and he showed me a lot on how to repair them in a pinch. That's just in my area alone.

I know some people love them. But talk to me in 20 years or in my case 30+ years with my Twin. Then I'll be impressed.

I gigged my HRDlx. I didn't drive it hard and I don't run my amps into the ground.

All I can say is I'm really glad it's gone.

Just my opinion. No need for anyone to get defensive. I didn't have a great experience with it or my GDec either for that matter. It'll be a long time before I buy another newer Fender amp. If you love your HRDlx love it and play it as long as you can.

+1!

I bought mine (brand new) as a rehearsal/practice amp to replace an old solid-state made-in-Taiwan Fender Sidekick Switcher. In fifteen years of service the Sidekick Switcher never even burped or otherwise hiccuped once. By contrast, the replacement HRDlx made three visits to the authorized service center in two years.

Mercifully, it's now nothing but a fading memory -- replaced by a used DRRI......which I should've bought in the first damn place!
