I hope to purchase a Super Champ xd amp today. I would like to connect my Fender GE 112 extension cabinet for additional volume. How would i go about connecting up the cabinet to the amp?

Also, my extension cabinet is enclosed and as such sounds more bassey than i wish. Can i acquire a better souond from the cabinet by removing or modifying its rear panel?

Thanx for any help, cheers.

The specs list an external speaker jack. Just connect the extension cabinet to it with a speaker cable. Your amp is an 8 ohm, check your extension speaker to see if it's 8 ohms, or 16. Be sure to check the manual to see what extension speaker impedance should be.

As mentioned above, I have an enclosed Fender 1x12 extension cabinet. It sounds more bassey than i wish. Can i acquire a better sound (more highs) from the cabinet by removing or modifying its rear panel?

Yes, removing the back panel will alter the sound from the speaker cabinet. It all depends on the speaker and the enclosure size as to which way sounds best to you. Generally speaking, you will get a more solid, tight, punchy and fuller sound with the back panel on, and it will sound brighter, less punch and maybe a little louder with the back panel off. Some cabinets have a removable center section in the back panel that acts like a port (small opening to allow air movement, as seen on subwoofer enclosures). You can cut out a section across the middle of yours, or cut out a circle and put in a plastic port hole insert. Some people prefer the sound with the back panel off and set close to a wall. Lot's of possibilities.

The back panel may be difficult to remove without damaging anything. You may need a screw-diver to pry it off, which could cause some damage if you aren't careful. Maybe keep in mind the value of your cabinet, especially if it's a vintage one. Definitely try it with and without the back panel to see which you like better (hope it has screws). Experiment and have fun! :D

The enclosure is a MIM cabinet dating 1996. Unfortunately, removing the rear panel will prove difficult as there are no screws.
