i posted somrthing similar to this a while ago, so i aplogize in advance. something has come up in the last few days that i could use some help with.

i have been looking at the fender stage 100 and 1000 models, and there are some out there at what looks like good prices(100-150 range). as far as i can tell, the only difference is that the 1000 adds a buit-in tuner and timbre. is it worth the price difference?

second, and maybe more important, are service issues. i have read many reports, and the one thing i seem to hear is that it is hard to get repair parts for these. is it true, and do these also have reliability issues?.

i'm not putting a lot of money into these amps, so it wouldn't kill me. another possibility is the princeton 650.

anty thoughts would be appreciated. hope you all have a wonderful day :D

I can't comment on the 1000 as I've never had any "hands-on" with one. But I own a Stage 100 DSP and frankly, for a solid-state amp it's got a lot to offer. Mine's from '96 or '97 and has been rock-solid dependable thus far. But I know there's a good chance that should it crash and burn, I'd likely be SOL due to lack of spare parts. But they're loud and they're portable......

If you can find one for less than $200, grab it.

The extension cab is the matching DT-112. I actually bought it first with the intention of using it with a HRDlx. But I dumped the HRDlx in disgust after many trips to the repair shop. Both the cab and the Stage 100 DSP are equipped with a Celestion G12T-100. Adding the cab elevates the amp's output to 160 watts (it's actually the same chassis as the 2 x 12 Stage 160) and it's beau coup loud......it'll blow a Crate half-stack into the next county.

You mentioned "another possibility is the princeton 650".
I've had a good/bad experience with mine. The good: has a very good tone, both on the clean and drive channels and the variations in tone are considerable with the 'timbre' selector. Drive sounds good from mild OD on up. The effects are mostly quite decent and there is a good selection. This amp is very portable (28#) and LOUD! It is a great 'grab and go' amp.

I bought this amp just at the time it was discontinued, so I got a good price and a 5 yr. warranty. A friend of mine heard it, played it and immediately got one for himself. He's quite an accomplished player, playing in many bands since the 60's and is quite picky. He has had no problems whatsoever with his and mine has been in the shop 3 times for warranty work. My warranty runs out Jan 2011. I'd say if you can get one cheap ($100-$150) it may be worth the risk.

It has a Celestion speaker in it and so if it should fail again beyond the warranty, it may just become an extension cab for one of my tube amps.
