Is anybody out there using an Ibanez Tube Screamer with their HRDV?

How do you link it in the chain? Does it go thru your effects loop or do you plug your guitar directly into the screamer and then the screamer in the main guitar input?

I am curious if anybody has any experience using this pedal and what they think about it with a Hot Rod DeVille 212

Thanks!

I don't use it with an HRDV, but it works great with my Vox AD60VTX. I use it between the guitar & amp input. That's normally where you use distortion or overdrive pedals.

Have fun,
Bob

I use a TS-9 with a Blues Deluxe and matching extension cab. The TS-9 is one of my favorite effects pedals...seems to go well with every amp I've tried it with.

I use a Monte Allums H2O Plus modified Blues Driver with my Blues Deluxe Reissues. Sounds better than the amp's overdrive channel and it works at any volume level. Don't put an overdrive/distortion pedal in the effects loop.

and BTW, use the OD/distortion pedals directly in the signal path, not the loop.

+1 Keep it out of the loop. The position of what comes first in the effects chain is personal preference.

Bought the reissue TS9 about 10 years ago, and it was OK, not great. Sent it off to Keeley for their mod and it came back much better.

That being said, I find I don't use it much any more as I've go the Barber Direct Drive and the Paul Cochrane Timmy for drive/crunch/dirt, and a Keeley Katana for boost. I may replace the TS9 on the pedalboard and get a good fuzz instead for something completely different. If I really want to go old school, I still have my MXR Distortion II bought new in 1982...

On pedals though, to each his own.

I have tried my B.Y.O.C. Overdrive II (TS Clone) with my Deville 410 and it sounds great to me! I is practically a TS-808 (and a boost) but I replaced to IC from JRC4558 to a Burr Brown OPA 2134 instead I believe it sound fuller and not so... nasal as a TS-808 can sound. I recommend this DIY Kit!

I am still wondering... does an overdrive effect pedal or any pedal hurt your tube amp in any way? It sometimes sounds that way...

I always recommend BYOC. Great kits. The overdrive II is a nice pedal. I have two BYOC BBO pedals one modded, one not. I like them better than my Tube Screamer. It's a bit more transparent and has some nice grind to it.

I've owned the green TS9 for about 10 years I guess and only recently did I read about the opamp JRC 4558 being so much better...I've never considered something like that,do you guys really think it helps the pedal to change one to the JRC 4558?
I opened mine up and there's another numbered component in there, but I love tinkering with things...so,
Is it worth the time?...I don't use mine that much but it's the only OD pedal I have.

Hi Rebelsoul!

I guess what you are thinking about is reverting a TS9 to the classic TS-808...
that one used a JRC4558 and two different resistors... if you feel secure about your soldering skills there´s a lot to gain here I think... a more classic Tubescreamer sound. Check this out:

Modifying a TS9 to TS808

By adding a socket for the IC you will be able to try other ICs too... be sure to check first if they will work... I could recommend Burr Brown's OPA2134 that give more bottom and top not that typical midrange OD that TS-808 are known to be.

If you mod your pedal you are close to the ODII I use and talk about a little earlier above...
