Hello guys, I´m a little low on cash, and I intend on getting a used Fender Pro Jr. on ebay for about $100 less then a new one on GC.
I´m really thinking of everybody telling me that my Solid State Fender FM 25 DSP is no match for a Fender Pro Jr. with tubes so I got tired of it, as well as i liked the sound of the fm25.
Do you think its worth paying for a used tube amp ? Or should I save some more for a brand new ?
If i search hard i can find Fender Pro Jr USA made.. but its worth used over a new mexico made ?

I intend to match the new amp with a Boss ME70 and a Highway One Strat.

One of my Pro Jrs was bought used and still sounds as good the one that I bought new.

I'd suggest trying before buying as some have buzzing and/or hiss issues.

Hi joaokorb,

A used amp is just fine, depending on the savings. I would say that $100 is a nice savings so long as the amp is in good shape. The Hot Rod series of amps, which the Pro Jr is a member, have gone through some revisions over the years. The newer MIM amps actually have some revisions/improvements over the US models. It seems that most of the revisions were done during/after the production was moved to Mexico, so the MIM Pro Jr would be an updated MIA Pro Jr. However, the US made amps typically have a higher resale value.

There are also lots of people on the net that have good advice for amp improvements if you feel the need. The Pro Jr would be a good amp to use to sharpen up your tech skills, if you are into modding (I am!) I guess that I should get a Pro Jr to complete my collection. I have 3 of the Hot Rods now, the Blues Jr, The Deluxe and the Deville 4x10. I have modded the HRDlx, and the BJr. Just got through modding my BJr last night...WOW!
:)

The Pro Jr is the most reliable of the Hot Rod series due to it's simplicity. For $250 why not? I never liked them all that much they were always tinny and boxy sounding to my ears, but that's just my ears and my opinion YMMV. EL84 tubes aren't traditional Fender tone. They are bright and aggressive tubes.

If I was low on cash, For fifty bucks more, I'd look at a used Peavey Classic 30. You can comfortably do small to medium size gigs with them. Just a thought.
