Typically, with most Fender amps, V1 will be the farthest away from the power tubes. The schematic that Retroverbial linked to shows the tube sockets on the second page (chassis layout). If you zoom in real close you can see the tiny V1, V2, V3 etc, marking each socket. The lettering is kind of fuzzy on that drawing. The Fender website drawing is a little clearer.

http://www.fender.com/support/amplifier_schematics.php Scroll down to Blues Deluxe.

Retroverbial, I gasped in horror when I saw that you had linked to a non-Fender site for Fender schematics!!!

Looking at the back of the amp, V1 is a small preamp tube and will be the farthest away from the Bigger power tubes. If the Bigger tubes are on the left, then V1 will be the farthest one to the right. Counting from right to left, preamp tubes are V1, V2, V3 then the power tubes V4, V5.

Good Lord, what part of a pictorial diagram don't you comprehend?

http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... ematic.pdf

Just look at the pictures on page 2!

Did you already experienced 5751 in V1 before?

Is it General Electric parts with high µ?

 wow yea i didn't even realize there was a page 2  the second page definitely answers my question. had a brain fart man been a long day :/

and yea i have one in my bassman. but this amp is for the small jam room so when i crank it it starts to overdrive a little more than i want.

but thanks for the fast solution even though i completely over looked it

oh yea! has anyone here done the re-verb mod where you cut the r103 resister to liven it up? can it damage the amp in the long run?

Maybe someone can help me with this one, even though It's been discussed on this forum before: I have never been able to get enough OD from my BDRI (drive chnl) without making my ears bleed in fairly large rooms, and yet Somebizarredude gets more that he wants/needs. What am I missing? or doing wrong? I put Tungsol 12AX7's and 5881's in it, but I didn't see any major difference. I really prefer not to go the attenuator route.

i wasn't really getting overdrive i used the wrong word to describe it :/ i was just getting a little breakup on the clean channel at high volumes. but with my friends Carvin with EMG's the overdrive channel was pretty gritty lol

Bizzare, you might want to try the 5751 in(V3)the phase inverter- driver position. V1 pretty much gives the signature(character) signal for the rest of the amp. I think, Tissan was getting at this. I would put my very best 12AX7- 7025 tube here. For V2, I'd probably go with a softer-rounder sounding tube. Don't own one of these amps, so my opinion is theoretical !!! Art

Remove R103 is removing a high pass filter that causes a sound a little bit more"bass". No consequence in term of reliability (from my point of view but i'm not god)

(Don't forget to take care with high voltages)

After your "theoretical" opinion, I tried putting the 5751 that I had installed in V1 (in another brand/model amp) into it's V3 position. I've been attempting to control (reduce) gain particularly in the Drive channel of this amp. I do believe it is more effective in V3 than in V1 as you theorized. Hope it's not just my mind playing tricks on me.

Now, if I could only find a way to produce the opposite effect on the Blues Dlx RI. :?
