Hey cechansler,

What kind of sound do you want? Do you have a Strat, Gibson or other type of guitar, humbuckers, single coils? Do you like to play clean and use effects pedals or do you want an amp with built in effects? Do you prefer solid-state or tube amps? There are plenty of great Fender amps to cover all tastes. If you give some details I'm sure that someone here could give you a better idea for an amp that's just right for you. :)

I aggree with shimmilou, you need to know what kind(s) of guitars you will be playing through the amp, and your price range is a good one. always remember you will be carrrying this heavy thing anywhere you go outside of your house, and anything can be miked. if it is a fender guitar and you want a classic fender sound, anything tube by fender will please you.

Here is your list. 66 combo amps that are between $300-$500 and fit your budget:

Actually you really don't need a list. While at the shop if the amp is more than $500, pass on it. If it's less than $500, then plug in and try it out. Try out as many as you can. If you and your brother find one that suits you, then buy it. Good luck and have fun!

If you are looking for suggestions for a particular amp, then I agree with the others to let us know what style of music you play, what guitars you use, if you are playing out, and how much volume you need. You can stretch your dollar by buying a used amp.

Does this mean you both intend to play through this amp at the same time?

If so, that means one of the old style 2 channel non-switching amps may best meet your needs. For example, an amp with channel features like the '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue (not suggesting this model since it is far beyond your budget).
