I got a new Celestion Alnico Blue 12” speaker for Christmas and want to install it in my Fender ’65 Reissue Deluxe Reverb amp to replace the stock Jensen it came with. I removed the old 8 hole speaker but the Celestion has 4 holes in it. The screws that hold the speaker in place are on the other side of the grill cloth and cannot be reached to remove them. Do you have any suggestions on how to install it? I do NOT want to drill in the rim of a $240 speaker and am not too keen on the idea of cutting or clipping 4 of the screws off with a dremel to make it fit, and am not sure how comfortable I am with removing the grill cloth to get to the screw ends as I'm not sure I could get the cloth back on properly. Do you know what DRRI owners normally do to get around this problem???

The only thing you can do without permanently modifying your amp or speaker would be remove the grillecloth to get at the screw heads, but then again, they might not even be screw heads and you would have taken the cloth off for nothing. See if you can look through the hole in the baffle and push out the cloth a little to gain access to the screw heads.

For future reference for others, as I found after TONS of research the info on this subject on the internet SUCKS!!!!

I took a pair of pliers, and it was remarkably easy to loosen every other screw to where they just spun in the hole doing so real careful so as not to bend the threads. Then I used a hammer to push the screw back towards the grill, and reached in the speaker hole with a pair of pliers to pull the loose screws out. The ones that were closest to the top and bottom were tough, but I successfully got them out without ruining the grill at all! I then easily bolted in my Blue and put the amp back together. WAY easier than I thought. Doubt I can ever get those back in though if I wanted to sell it. I'd probably just include the 4 and tell the buyer what I did. The 4 screws are plenty enough to hold the speaker in place. The screws once I removed them are real weird, too. Bet they would be real hard to replace.
