i'm thinking of buying a used fender solid state amp. there are a few good deals out there, but i wanted to get the opinions of the others out there.

i have been looking at the following:

princeton 65
deluxe 900
stage 1000
stage 1600

and a few others too....

any opinions on the above?

The Utimate Chorus twin isn't a bad amp for cheap. Around $250.00

All of these amps are fine for their intended purpose but I would strongly caution anyone contemplating buying any of them older than ten years -- some of the parts (namely C-MOS chips, op-amps, transistors and the like) that were purpose-designed for these amps are no longer made. Solid-state micro-chip technology moved so fast that you may find yourself with a logistically-unsupportable amp should it take a dump on you. I have one of these amps (a '97 Stage 100 DSP) that currently works fine and sounds beautiful. But I know full well that if something really significant goes south it's entirely possible that it will become an anchor for somebody's bass boat. Common components and cosmetic parts can routinely be found for many of these older models but if something like the proprietary DSP module immolates itself or a primary power transformer fries, I'll be paddling up the proverbial creek with a pair of plastic "sporks".
