Just wondered about the different tubes that I've read about that come stock in the modern Champion 600s. Mine had a Fender Groove Tube 7025 preamp tube, it doesn't appear to be relabeled. The output tube simply says "Made in China May 2007". So, which tubes came with the NEW amp when it was purchased? Also, what tubes are in your amps now if you changed them? 8)

Hi.
My Champ 600 came with a couple of "no-name" tubes in it.
The Pre-amp tube was almost black with no markings on it at all and the power tube just had "made in China" and manufacturing date printed on it.

I first replaced the power tube with a JJ which really brightened up the sound (sounded quite dark and muddy before.)
I then replaced the pre amp tube with an EHx which almost didn't fit into the metal sleeve around the socket. Didn't notice any difference in tone with that one though.

When I fitted the JJ power tube I did have to bend the bottom part of the protective cage on the back cover as the JJ tube was a good half inch longer than the original one.

Cheers.

Tried voicing a friend's 600. It really has two kinda distinct tones. One below half volume and one at full (love that "12"). But in the middle, it's kinda blah. Any good coupling cap or other such "fixes" ppl tried here?

Thanks!

Me too for the EH 6V6 and Sovtek 12AX7. I got mine new in the box in late 2008. The 12AX7 has been changed to a vintage RCA 7025.

Modding will void your warranty, if you care. These sites are detailed and involve a lot of modification, but you can just do some of the mods or all if you want. I think that changing the signal path caps (tone stack) alone would go a long way towards improving the tone.
