You should not have to use OD with a Les Paul and DRRI...unless you're keeping the volume really low.
The guitar will drive that amp at decent volumes.

+1 Just keep your guitar in input #1 and crank away. You need to go out and try a bunch. Tone is very subjective. I use a modded BYOC Marshall Bluesbreaker clone. Fulltone, Ibanez, Boss, Danalectro and tons of others make overdrive pedal.

I use the Fulltone OCD with my DRRI. I also use both channels with each set of tone controls set to different EQ parameters and switch between the two (or use both simultaneously) via a Radial Tonebone A/B/Y. However my amp is significantly louder than a stock DRRI because the speaker is an ultra-efficient 15-inch JBL D130F. This rig sounds great with my Strats and my Les Pauls.

+1 my 335 and LP thru the DRRI at vol 3 is already plenty for me! With the Strat I have to hit 6+!
