Cool! Imagine how much better it would sound with a DRRI :D

As I've mentioned I've gigged with the BJ many nites, and it does do a good job, but when you play thru a DR in a small to medium sized bar it's another story... when I have the right tone I feel great and it'll show in my playing.

Well I can definitely make a recommendation on the Hot Rod Deluxe.
I've owned mine for about 10 years, and tried installing a Celestion G12-P80 in it this weekend. Big difference. The Deluxe now sounds clear and transparent like my BJ 12" or Champ. Now it sounds like I've got a large Champ. Nice !

What's the price difference between a Blues Jr. and a DRRI,is it worth paying the difference?Because if the difference in sound quality is that profound I'd like to try a DRRI.

Well worth the price difference IMO. You get better build quality. The tube sockets are mounted to the Chassis not the circuit board, two real channels with separate EQ, a cabinet made of wood, not press-board, better speaker, way better sounding reverb and the most important thing, reliability. The whole HRD series are plagued with problems that revolve around poor build quality and cheap components all the way down to the thin single sided circuit board. My HRDlx was the most unreliable amp I've ever owned in my 40+ years as a musician. 10 years is a long time for a HRDlx. Mine lasted 3 months. My Twin was over 30 years old and never failed, my 74 Champ is the same way. I have tubes that lasted longer than 10 years. If you find a DRR used there's about a $200 difference. New about $425. It the difference between an amp built to professional standards and one that isn't.

If you plan any hard gigging, I'd go for the DRRI. If you just want to play around the house or jam with friends from time to time, go with the Blues Jr. An even better choice in the Blues Jr price range is the Peavey Classic 30 or Egnater Tweaker.

The tonal difference between a HRDlx and a DRRI are night and day.
