+1 for the DRRI. I really dont see the point in buying the BJ, I had one and got rid of it, played my buddy's BJ for a few months 3-4 gigs a week cuz I didn't have my amp and he didn't want me to take his DRRI :) so I have plenty of experience with it... and I was a fan, til I spent some time with the DRRI.

I finally got my DRRI a month or so ago, and I have no idea why I waited this long to get one! If money is no object DRRI is the winner by far! It weighs about the same as the BJ, it's 22 watts and it doesn't sound boxy like the BJ does.

This is my opinion of course, no disrespect to the BJ owners out there :) I was once an a BJ owner but I've seen the light! So if you can afford one go for it, you can find them used on Craigslist for about $600. If not then BJ is your next option, forget the other 2 you mentioned.

DRI's are definitely nice; but the Super-Sonic 22 (SS22) is giving it some serious competition.

I wish Fender would have included their classic Tremolo from the DRI into the SS22; I've been waiting years for such an amp. (Hear me, Fender?!)

Take my suggestion, Fender, and I think you'd have the closest thing to a "PERFECT" small tube amp ever created!!

Btw, I noticed that no one commented on the Pro Junior. It's got a really nice tone and would sound wonderful miked through the PA. I've only ever played one straight guitar to amp, so have no idea how it would handle pedals, but straight guitar to amp it has a great tone!

John

I really doubt it's giving the DRRI any competition at all. It's not a Deluxe Reverb and it's actually quite different sounding. I tried one out for a pretty good while and It didn't impress me that much. It's a decent sounding amp and it is built on the DR platform, but it's not the same. I found the gain just eh and nothing really special about. To my ears, it's not the "pure Fender tone" that is claimed. But it's just my opinion and it's shared by many of my musician friends. YMMV and you may love it, I don't. I was hoping for something for something not so generic sounding.

Nope, no reverb. The Rebel 30 has reverb and two channels. The Rebel 30 is crazy. It has separate EQ and reverb for each channel. I like heads better than combos because it usually eliminates the tube rattle that usually plagues combo tube amps in general. I can't remember any combo that didn't develop rattle eventually. Some way worse than others. My HRDlx was horrible.

I don't miss reverb at all. I'm not real big on it anyway. I'll probably either build a pedal or buy one already built. More for recording than anything else. Most places I play have nice natural reverb anyway. I don't do surf. There are both digital and analog units available. I just find a good amps really doesn't need it. Tweed Bassman's, Deluxe's and vintage Champs ans Bandmasters are the same way. Unless you had a Bandmaster Reverb.

So I took my Strat and drove out to GC this afternoon since they have the Rebels there, both 20 and 30 head. I plugged into a 212 cab, started with the 30 first then onto the 20. Not really what I'm looking for, and the reverb on the 30 wasn't all that to tell you the truth, I preferred the 20. don't get me wrong they're nice sounding amps, but it didn't really work with my Strat and the tone I'm after. The tight switch works well! Didn't like the bass without it switched on...

Then it happened, my buddy there brought out a Twin with a 15 in it that they just got in on a trade, that's it! Wow! Everything is so crisp and clear, sweet highs and tight bass! The problem now is what to do?? The Twin is too much for me right now, I'm not gigging, and it's way too heavy! Is it possible to get that tone thru a smaller amp? Will the DRRI get close with a 15? Man I wish I could borrow Retro's DRRI! :)

I'm not a big fan of digital reverb. I liked the 20 better than the 30 too. I had no problem dialing in my Strat on the Egnater. There's a lot to mess with on it and like anything else, it's all a matter of taste, pups, playing style etc.

The Twins with the 15's are really sweet. Any Twin is pretty sweet. I had mine for over 30 years and just recently sold it to a close friend. Too loud and way too heavy for what I do now.

oh so that was digital?? no wonder! I didn't even check, but I should've noticed considering its size.

The Twin was VERY sweet to my ears! I even plugged into a new 212 Twin just to compare, and that 15 makes all the difference for me.

I might end up getting it if I don't find anything that matches that tone, but it will probably never leave the house :) it probably wont fit in the car... but it does come with casters. Is $750 considered a good price? It looks to be in good shape, still has the GT tubes in there.

That's about right. You can get a SF Twin for a little less. The market is getting flooded with them because of the power and weight. They're great sounding amps though. The wattage is a good part of the clean tone. You'll never get that kind of clean from a 20 watt amp Egnater included LOL.

I hated getting rid of my Twin but I have visitation and borrowing rights. It's the best of both worlds. :D

Yeah, I would never get a Twin if I lived in an apt! So far the neighbors haven't complained when I have the DR turned up past 6, I'm sure it's gonna be a different story with the Twin

You know the Delta Blues 15 is still an option, didn't get the chance to check it out yet, might do it tomorrow... just watched a clip on youtube comparing both 15" amps and they sound very similar! but that's youtube.

If you're jonesing for a traditional medium-power blackface platform with a fifteen-inch honker, there's always the "T.J. option"......

Cool! Yeah already found his site, google is your friend :) so I'm assuming I have to send him my DR and let him work his magic? I'm really only interested in doing what you did with your DR... any idea what the cost might be? I would have to supply the speaker? What do you recommend, JBL, Weber?

Indeed he does!

BTW, that amp is the "son" of my Spankmaster. He was just starting to build the cab when I showed him the pics of my completed blonde DRRI conversion. His was to be traditional blackface cosmetics and furniture......until he saw what I had done.

I think the blonde/wheatstraw motif is the most elegant era of Fender's history.

I took my Blues Jr. and Jimmie Vaughn Strat to a jam a few days ago and we played all classic rock all day and the Blues Jr. did a fabulous job-had the real 60s vibe and was plenty loud enough.
