I just bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe about a month ago and I have been noticing this metallic ringing noise when I hit certain notes (It sounds like something rattling). It sounds like its coming from inside the amp and I think it might be also be coming from the tubes because when I push them in the vibrating goes away for a little and then comes back shortly after. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this? Is this a common problem with these amps or should I take it back to back to Best Buy and exchange it for a different Hot Rod Deluxe?

Thanks
Tim

It's probably tube rattle. Either replace the rattling tubes or try tube dampers. Welcome to the world of the HRDlx. Yes it's a common problem with these amps.

Yes, I would take it back but get a Deluxe Reverb Reissue instead. It's built better and is a lot more reliable. Just my opinion.

Agreed that it's likely tube rattle.

The DRRI I bought last month had rattle right out of the box, so I brought it back for repair. When I got it back the first time, same problem. The second time I got it back, again the same problem. I was so turned off after 3 trips to the store that I finally returned it. It's too bad because it really is a wonderful-sounding amp. (By the way, the store had a shipment of two DRRI's. The sales guy informed me the other amp had the same problem.)

But that's just my experience. Most other people here will there you that theirs has been good to them.

It's a tube problem not an amp problem. Stop putting GT's in them and you'll be fine. The HRDlx is one of the least reliable amps in the Fender lineup.

In a perfect world tubes wouldn't go out on us, but the tone you achieve as a result makes it all completely worth it

If you can exchange the amp as a quick fix to the tube problem I say go for it.

Bring back to the dealer, it could be a speaker (it was the case on my BDRI)

In the tone department there are way better amps than a HRDlx for the money. A used DRRI or Super Reverb come to mind for not much more money.

You can get a used SF Twin for less. and have money left over for a decent pedal. That's if you have a need for that much power.
