Hi, there; I'm a new SCXD owner and really like this amp. I've had about a week to play around with it.

Here's my question: I notice what sounds to my ear like a lot of compression in the amp's response and I am wondering if this is a result of the speaker, the power supply, the DSP, or all of the above?

I'd like to get a little livelier sound out of it.

Maybe it's the way I am setting the gain, or maybe it is certain models in the amp; I'm not sure.

Does anybody else think like I do? Is there anything I can do to change this?

Thanks.

Do you notice this in all the voices, or one in particular?

I'm going to check it out in more detail soon, but I noticed it in several voices, including 1,6 and 7, which are some of the ones I really like..

I'll have more detail when I get back to the testing.

I'm just comparing it to my Peavey Classic 30 and it seems kind of "stuffed-up" some times.

I'm wondering if this could be due to the speaker, or the power supply, or if it's all in the DSP.

I wouldn't compare it to the Peavey, It's sort of apples and oranges. Hybrid designs have a sound all their own. I'm not a huge fan of DSP effects, but that new Marshall JMD:1 looks interesting.

Voice 1 is a tweed, and I think it's supposed to sound kind of thick. Voice 7 is a "Marshall-y" thing, and it might supposed to sound thick too. And Voice 7 sings and crunches like an overdriven blackface, and has chime in gobs. Maybe open the tone on the guitar up (say put a Strat to 10) and dial the tone in at the amp.

Also, search in here for (Eminence speaker) Ragin Cajun. There are lots of comments and advise that might answer your tone quest on this amp.

Ok, well, the main problem, as it turns out, was the Audio Technica cheap wireless guitar system I was using. I had never used one before and I discovered that it does indeed compress the audio a lot!

I removed it and now the problem is gone.....I should have realized it in the first place.

Thanks, all.

Most wireless instrument systems compress the guitar's output to some degree due to the bandwidth required to convert the audio into a modulated RF signal.

You'll find much the same situation using one of those FM transmitter adaptors to send an iPod's output to a vehicle audio system that does not have a hard-wired auxiliary input. They generally sound like compressed crap for the very same reason.
