I have a "red knob" twin. The manual says, to reduce the power, pull knobs 2 and 3. I ran it this way for years, no problem. It just came back from my amp tech with v/vs in position 2 and 3, but not in 1 and 4. Does anyone if this is ok ? It seems to work all right.

Is "v/vs" texting lingo for "valves"???

Anyways, I am assuming you are talking about the big 'v/vs', right? I'm not sure if that Twin would still function with preamp tubes 1 and 4 pulled. So it sounds like your tech pulled two of the four 6L6 tubes (valves). That is a common trick to reduce wattage for some amps with four power tubes. The four tubes work in pairs, so you pull 1 and 4, or 2 and 3. If your tech knew what he was doing then we can assume he checked it out to make sure the amp is running fine on only 2 6L6's.

It sounds like you were surprised to see two tubes missing. Didn't you discuss this with your tech when you took the amp in? Did you request he mod the amp to "reduce power"? Sounds like you and your tech had a communication breakdown. Ask him the details of what he did.

I pulled power tubes 2 & 3 on my twin but alas its still too loud.

Sounds good though.
