Picked up my dream amp today at my local Guitar Center during their 4th of July sale: A brand new-in-the-box Blues Deluxe. I've only played it a little bit today just trying to figure out the settings and how it sounds/works, but I am in love. It sounds so much different (and better!) than my little Frontman 25R. I'm so glad I decided to start playing again after a 20 year break. I've missed it a lot. And I finally have the guitar I always dreamed of, a Fender Strat. Ok. Its not a Masterbuilt Eric Clapton, and my amp isn't a tweed Twin, but the combination of my modified '09 MIM Standard Srat and the Blues Deluxe sure sounds sweet to my ears. This has been one great 4th of July! :D

Thanks.

I actually plan on taking lessons, something I never did 20 years ago. And no, the Blues Deluxe won't be going to classes with me. I have the Frontman 25R for that. :D

Gotta say that I am loving this amp. Still working on finding the optimal settings to use with my guitar ('09 MIM Standard Strat with SCN pups). The only thing I don't like about it is that the knobs turn so easily, I'm always knocking the one next to the knob I am adjusting out of place. I also found that the back panel of the cabinet I have the amp sitting on (its an old wooden low-boy "entertainment center") was vibrating quite loudly on the low bass. So I kicked out the back panel which got rid of the vibration, but made the cabinet wobble. I was worried about the weight of BDRI collapsing the cabinet! So I spent several hours last night screwing the sides of the cabinet together with long wood screws. It looks like hell, but now I can walk on the cabinet (I weigh 250 lbs) if I want without it collapsing.

Today I found the key to getting the amp to operate in a range on the volume controls where it is happiest: Use input #2 which has 6 dB less sensitivity than input #1. This allowed me to increase the clean volume from 3 or 4 to 6 on the dial. As a result, I can set the volume control on my Strat to 5 for quiet playing and then crank it up to 10 and not blow out the windows in my house. It also also allowed me to operate the drive channel at better gain and master volume setting for a very nice, mild overdrive sound. Now I am working on figuring out the best tone/presence/bright settings to use with the SCNs in my Strat. This is fun! :D
