hi guys.
after hard touring i can hear strange cab buzz on the right side of the amp under a grill cloth. all screws are checked and tightened, it's the board, that holds the speaker. and only on the right side, where is no speaker. how can i fix that? can hear it only on clean channel, but really noticeable. thx.

p.s.: don't make love to my brain about how unreliable this amp is. i know. still sounds the way i want it to. so let's talk business only. thanks a lot.

Hi,
Is the cabinet separated? ie: is the front panel coming apart from the side panel?
edit, also, I have had mine for a year and a half... MINE is very reliable and sounds great!

It sounds to me that the baffleboard (the thing the speaker attatches to) has come loose to some marginal degree. It does only have to be marginal too. Easily bought on by the rigours of touring (I always spent more time working on cabs and changing fuses than I ever did on guitars).

Here's what to do.

Get a tube of clear silicon. Take the chassis, speakers and baffleboard out of the cab. Now see where the baffleboard attatches to, apply a nice thick continuous band of silicon all the way round that. Apply a less thick band of silicon around the edge of the baffleboard. Then (before the silicon is dry) put the baffleboard back in. Next put a band of silicon around where the baffleboard and combo's walls/floor/roof join and form a 90 degree angle.

Leave it 24hours to dry then put your speakers and chassis back in.

You'll never get that baffleboard out again, ever. But it won't rattle again ever either.

I suppose (though I've never done it) you could use (foam tape) Isolation tape to do the same thing.

i thought mine was reliable too, i love it really, but it screwed me up today badly, on the last song we played on the huge stadium the solder gone melted due to the heat of the sun + tubes and the soldering melted on one of the caps and sound were interrupting all the time and we barely made it to the end. sounds amazing, when it's ok, but... i guess mine was modded (i bought it used), cause it sounds way clearer and fuller, than 3 other hrdlxs i've tried. but the tubes are stock and the bias is 53 mv... drive channel sounds really powerful though... dunno.

Sir, it does sound to me like the walls of the amp have started to move a little more. It does happen over time and is generaly a good thing. I like to have a good bit of vibration going on.

The 4x12 in this picture-

Image

used to wobble from side to side as I played. In the end I had to scrap it, I really miss it, but it happens over time. I bought that cab used eleven years ago. It's seen close to 700 gigs out of me, so you can guess at what a average cab will stand up to. Quite a bit of thunder.

If you've been playing hard it sounds to me like the cab has loosened up a bit and the wall of the cab is vibrating on the baffleboard.

All the best with it and happy gigging mate.

Go forth and rock.
