Not too sure about the Egnater. Call me old fashioned or snob, but I'd like an amp with a classic badge - Fender, Marshall or Vox.

Would any of you recommend a Tweed Blues Deluxe for example? The clips I've heard of that seem very decent.

Niki, how about the Marshall Haze? Relatively light and plenty of versatility - on paper at least...

I have a blues deluxe and it is there for emergency purposes only. Its a decent sounding amp that has a not so good track record for reliability. For just a little more money you can get a Deluxe reverb that will give you great sound and be a workhorse of a gigging amp.A used 59 Bassman ri can be had used for a fairly descent price too.

tremolo arm, Egnater has been building custom amplification since the 70's. I just couldn't afford his amps. He's worked with Steve Vai, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, George Lynch etc. Randall amps modular series are his too. His Rebel series is manufactured in China to strict standards. Each amp is built in China and tested in the US. Being the skeptic that I am the first thing I did was slide the chassis out and take a look. The boards are thick double sided boards with plated through holes, hand soldered flying leads instead of ribbon connectors and solid as a rock. I've been having a blast with mine. It's holding up great with zero problems so far after 10 months.

I wouldn't recommend anything in the Fender Hot Rod Series, Blues Deluxe and Jr included. Don't be fooled by the Tweed or NOS stuff either. Tweed is more than just a look. I'd look at a Bassman Reissue if you want real Tweed tone or a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. The Vox Night Train is pretty sweet.

Nikininja was pointing you in the right direction with Marshall, they have the best overdrive sound of all. There are models with channel switching and reverb or you can buy a seperate reverb such as the Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Reverb which is one of the most versatile reverbs ever made bar none. The E-H Holy Grail is also a great effect with realistic spring reverb.Vox AC15 & 30 is also worth a look, the AC 15 is incredibly loud and it sounds like it's waymore than 15W and has a real punch to it when cranked.

Haven't tried the Haze mate. I'm very much in two minds about Vietnamese Marshalls. I like that people can have a tank proof valve marshall for a decent amount of money, but think the better sounds come from Milton Keynes.
Personaly I've never heard one channel switching amp that was good on both channels. I don't do effects loops or built in reverb either, so I don't bother trying them amps when I see em.
The less a amp has on it, the better it sounds in my book.
Watch this space I may have something more for you soon on that front.

The main reason I like the DSL is because it's clean channel is quite plexi'ish. Very nice and squashy. I used one to record the cover of Tush on the below myspace link. (If you listen please excuse the horrible mastering, he added a load of treble and reverb and took all the mids out). All that is, is the clean channel volume on 10 out of a DSL100, a 57Hotrod and a Jen wah.

If you must go the Fender route (and please don't discount Supro's recommendation of Egnater) I'd stick to the old classics. Their what Fender do best.

Please go give it a try. It's not my first choice in amp (I see too many controls and constantly wonder, "what if?" If I were you I'd look there or to Cornford. I really dont think theres anyone on the planet offering quality like Cornford does at his prices.
Ridiculously large url to the cornford harlequin

Or give Mark at Sheldon amps a try. These are the best things I've ever heard ever, regardless of cost.

If I ever buy another amp, thats what I'm having. Any of the above will give the sounds you want.

One of the reasons why I love my Supro Sahara (only volume, treble, middle, and bass controls; no reverb or effects loop).
